Mazda3 5-Door Hatch vs. Honda Civic Si
Now, this being a Mazda3 forum, I would expect the responses to be somewhat biased.
BUT... I got in this discussion with my friend online at work one day and I've decided to see what everyone else thinks.
Let's look at just base numbers: (M=mazda, H=honda)
Base Price MSRP $19,320(H) $16,895(M)
Total Equipped Price $19,810(H) $19,105 (M)
Warranty
Basic Time (Months) 36(H) 48(M)
Basic Time (Miles) 36000(H) 50000 (M)
Powertrain Time (Months) 36(H) 48(M)
Powertrain Time (Miles) 36000(H) 50000(M)
Engine: Mazda Bigger...
And the most crucial part...
Cup Holders: 4 (H) 6(M)
This past weekend I took it to the test, I went and test drove both cars. And I will say that hands down the Mazda is just a nicer car.
The exterior of the 3 just looks much sharper and though both come "pre-riced" the 3 does it in a much more tasteful way. The 3 had much more solid feel on the road and seemed to corner easier. The futuristic "cock pit" really makes you feel like you have entered the 21st Century and everything is very easy to find and use. The 3 just kills the competition with design. Pre-Meshy-Meshed front grill, sleek body style, elegant and futuristic gauges/dash, etc, etc, etc. You would be hard pressed to find a better looking interior for the cost.
The Civic Si, I will have to admit, was awful fun to drive (maybe because the salesman let me take it out by myself :twisted
But the shifter being the dash and no arm rest to put your elbow made me (us) think that after a couple hours of driving the Si would fatigue your arm quickly. Also, rearview visibilty was extremely crippled by poor design in the Si, it's like you are looking through a portal. The only perks I could see on the car were: 1) it was peppy, 2) it was made by Honda, 3) it's the car that defined rice (I'm not sure that is a perk)
I would have to say Mazda out does Honda 2:1 on this car. And the only reason Honda is selling the Si is because it put the Emblem on it. Tell me what you think.
