Clutch not coming back up

Hey everyone I just got on the forum. I was wondering if anyone knew why my clutch pedal wouldn’t be coming back up If I pump it and pull it back a couple times it comes up slowly but if I let it sit for a minute it stays on the floor again. Anyone got any advice?

Was work recently done on the clutch? Is the fluid level okay? Normally this happens after something like the slave cylinder has been changed and the system opened allowing air to enter. The corrective action in that case is to bleed the air from the system until the pedal springs back up normally after being depressed. If nothing has been done to your system I would start investigating for a bad slave cylinder or a leak in the hydraulics first.

Hey yea I put a new clutch on and then I replaced the slave cylinder. But I bled the car multiple times and it didn’t make much of a difference. I took off the master cylinder and there was some kind of black goo that come out so I think that might be an issue

Sounds like the black goo is disintegrated seals.
Yea that would make sense, I’ll put the new one on and see what happens if. Just a little nervous for bleeding the master

If you have black goo in the line, you need to replace the line or clean it out (if you can be sure it is cleaned out and not contaminated).
Ok I will do that thank you
