Yes it will just like the current Chevy does. The question is will it at least match the imports for quality?
What's it look like?

Looks like Civic.
Front looks ok. Thanks schulkw. Will post my vote now. :)
The Cobalt should be a vastly better car then the Cav--and changing the name, since Cav had a lousy rep is a good idea.

Base engine 2.2L 145hp est
2.4L opt w/170hp est

and since the ION Redline is getting the S/C 2.0 (205hp) look for it a perforance Cobalt. I think the autos will be 5speeds too---which is what Mazda should have.
I don't think they'll do that well.

Toyotas and Hondas still have their reputations going for them, regardless of the recalls that "nobody hears about" ... hehehe

Ha! Look at that pic. That was sketched by my friend at GM. Josh Thurber. Way cool guy. The car will do well as long as GM puts big engines and build quality in it.

The Cobalt does resemble a Civic from some angles.

I think that there will be buyers. Make the car affordable enough and reliable enough, and good looking (subjective) and the masses will come.

But from a performance point, with a bigger motor, straight line acceleration should be good. We'll have to wait and see on the handling.
