I had a CEL with pinging/hesitation a while back. The dealer replaced a "tumbler control solenoid" (fault code 61, P/N L301-18-741). What is this? I ask because I'm having similar problems now (no pinging though) and want to know what was replaced previously.

The tumbler control soleniod is the soleniod that opens and closes the tumble valves in the intake manifold. They are basically restrictor plates that cause the air to ramp up its velocity and tumble upon entering the combustion chamber. They are only closed restricting the intake air when the engine is cold below 3500rpms...above that engine speed, or once the coolant warms up some they open up.
