I'm getting a bit of a run-around with Mazda as I try to get my parking brake problem fixed (see my other thread).

None of my other cars with disc brakes have ever required 'maintenance'. My old integra with 260000 kms only had one brake maintenance at 100,000kms to change out the OEM pads. Mazda is claiming that this car needs 24k and 48k brake cleaning where they take apart the calipers and 'clean' things. Is this really necessary?

not necessary at all. They are just stealerships so they are trying to steal your money.

^^^ hahahah
biggest bunch of BS.
Follow your manual to the word and throw it at them.

after 20k miles I'd do a quick check on
- pad wear in/out pad
- and if you auto-x etc. flush the brake system...that's it.

Also, don't compare the two cars. The brake system/materials are totally different. Hazarding a guess, you're probably a bit harder on the MS3's brakes since the car is a bit more powerful.
