There are text messages going around saying the following ::

" FRM:BOTCMESSAGE MSG:BANK OF THE CASCADES urgent account verify notification, +unusual activity+, call at 866.461.5670"

This is a scam!
I just wanted to let everyone know... if you think there's anything suspicious going on the suggestion is being made to goto your bank and make sure... do not call any phone number that has been left.

I myself, my roommates, and alot of others have recieved this and I just want to make it known for anyone on here!

Thanks
Kevin

Yeah, I hope not. My local news did a story on it the other night. Apparently its a scam coming out of California.

I work for a pretty large bank and I get calls about fraudulent e-mails every now and then but we have an abuse e-mail where customers can froward them to. If you actually bank with the Bank of the Cascades, you may want to actually call THEIR customer service # just to give them a heads up on this...but I'm sure they're probably already aware of the situation, lol. Nevertheless, if a bank text messages, calls or e-mails you, they will NEVER ask for any identifying information. It's a normal privacy policy procedure.

Hope this helps a little :)

Like Axela said above... banks/credit unions etc will never outright ask for your account number over the phone. They always have security measures in place.. for instance a password set at the time you opened the account, or they will have you verify your home phone/social security number etc.. They will never send a text message either... that's just ghetto for a bank to do.

It's amazing what people do these days to scam you out of your own money. Jeesh.

Oddly enough, the bank I work for will actually send a text message from our credit services area if a customer is late for a payment but all it says is "please call the bank at (phone number)". I do find it pretty ghetto though. When a customer told me they got a text from us I immediately responded with "huh?"
