Is it me? If i set my Auto Volume Control to 1,2 or 3, I dont here the stereo volume level change when i get off the freeway to a stop sign on city streets. Am i the only one experiencing this? I used to have a Chevy Camero and its automatic volume control worked great!

if you don't hear the volume change, it's working perfectly - it's jut supposed to go up enought to compensate for the increased road noise.

I thought it would be more dramatic than that. I REALLY noticed it in the Camero.

The thing is, i will have the volume set to 14 on the freeway, and then when i get around my house its still at 14. I have the ALC set to Level 3.

I'm going to do some more test today after work.

Camaro. Come on, you owned one, you should know that. ;)

I definitely notice the volume drop when I slow down quickly, its seems to lag about a second or so. But, it doesn't change the number of the volume, it just makes it louder at that number. So for your example, it should still be at 14 throughout the whole trip.

I might be wrong since I don't use it anymore, but the ALV doesn't actually turn up the volume (say from 14 to 17) but instead it makes the current level louder (so you're still on 14, but 14 is louder to compensate for road noise).

I never noticed it until I had to jump hard on the brakes at 80 mph! It was like radio power was being drawn from the brakes. Pretty cool actually. If you can't notice it, then it's doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

OK, I guess id does work. I set the radio to 14 from a stop light just before getting on the freeway. Got to 75 and i did notice the increase. Slight...but noticable. Then i looked at the volume level and it was still at 14. Then i set it to "0" and boy did i really notice the difference. Have to applaude mazda in being able to adjust the volume up and down so it is not noicable.

HEY! Maybe the is a decible meter in the car and it raises and lowers the volume according to the amount of noice there is in the cabin? Humm?

I guess i do like it better than the one in my MACARO oooops CAMARO Ha ha

Thanks

I dont' think it listens to the cabin noise, otherwise, you'd get the same increase in volume with the windows or sunroof down and maintaining the same speed.

I think its tied to the speedometer (I always seem to hear an increase at like 63mph).

Re: Automatic Volume Level Control "DISABLE"

okay - I agree that it works and does for the most part have a gradual increase in volume - but to be honest, it sucks.
This is what I'm noticing.
The only time the system sounds like it has any balls is when the automatic volume control is set the the maximum (3). In better terms let me describe it this way. It appears to me that the increase in AVC is not directly proportionate to the increase in volume. As I have read in another post somoeone said as you pick up speed the volume, if set on 14, eventually sounds like its on 17. But I dont agree with that exclusively, yes its louder but the quality of the sounds is poor if the AVC is not set to the max. Its like the AVC is turning up the amp to give deeper bass and better highs. Heres what I would like to do but dont know if its possible. I want to disable the AVC and still have the volume and sound quality react as if it were on the max AVC setting of 3.

Anyone have some knowledge of the workings of an OEM single CD stereo in an '05 3s. I dont have any upgrades or anything.

Ummm, you could always adjust the bass/mid/treble levels. Would that help?
