I believe race weight at the Devens Tour was 2746. That was with about two gallons of fuel.

My car weighed just under 3K with me in it, street tires and rims and a gallon or two of gas when I was at the Toledo Pro last year. Sooo... maybe ~2830 then, race weight.

Empty for weight. Never had starvation issues.

okay, complete auto-x noob here with a couple questions that i didn't see addressed (forgive me if i just missed them). i've looked through the solo rulebook but it might as well be in russian.

first, i'm going to be getting new wheels most likely pretty soon, so would i be good to just keep my stock 17" snowflakes and get some racing tires for them to use specifically for races? what tires are the best?

also, i think i'd be in stx based on my setup but i'm not sure. here's what i'll have upgraded by the time i start racing:
-front and rear sways
-ms3 exhaust (kept stock cat)
-CAI
-progress springs
-short shifter
-race tires on stock snowflakes (17" x 7.5)

will having the rear sway put me in some other class that i don't want to be in? i know front sway is legal for h stock but what about having both in sts or stx or whatever? should i just remove the rear sway before races?

also, i'm thinking about upgrading all engine mounts, would that bump me up even more?

i hope these questions are making sense. thanks for the help!

hmmm....so it looks like i'd be STS then with all of that...i guess motor mounts would kick me up out of those classes, it doesn't sound like "Alternate motor mounts sold by vehicle manufacturer or its competition subsidiary" would count for SU motor mounts.

i didn't see anything about a CAI...unless "Intake and exhaust port matching" is referring to CAI...in which case it looks like i'd have to remove it to stay in STS.

I believe that is correct. The rx8 wheels put me into Stx with wrx's and the such but it is still fun to go out and drive.

So you'd be in STS if you don't put R-compound tires on the stock wheels. The CAI is mentioned in 14.10.a in the 2008 SCCA rulebook.
R-compounds will put you in the Street Prepared class.

i measured them the other day, looked like 7.5 to me but i could be wrong


so if i just get some regular summer tires that aren't R rated i'd be good in STS? thanks for the clarification! i'm really excited to start this.

As long as the wear rating is above 180? and a 225 max.

I found a sweet deal on my wheels (17 x 7.5 subzero's) with tires (RE01's) on the scca forums for cheap.

The wheels are light and the tires are sticky. I'm pretty excited to see improvements over summer tires (Kuhmo SPT's) on my 18 x 8's (Rota P1's)...

Okay i have done autoX before but not with my mazda. Whats the seggested tire pressure for raceing? What class would i be in if i have a CAI? And i want to get a HKS exhaust. That exhaust takes off one of the cats if i understand correctly???
