I want to cancel all of my premium channels on Fios and replace it w/ $9/mo netflix. Apple TV seems like a good deal but I wanted experiences w/ it before I went out and got it. Thoughts?

I would like to know too. I have Google TV on the Logitech Revue and it blows.

Why? Every review I've read said it's pretty great, aside from the content providers that are blocking their shows from it.

Apple TV doesn't even do full HD.

This guy hates Apple TV. :dunno:

From a user interface perspective, Apple TV is much more visually appealing. But I found searching for and renting movies from Amazon VoD on Google TV to be much more functional. On Christmas Eve, I rented "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" for $3.99. A notice indicated that Amazon VoD HD was coming soon for Google TV, but the quality looked plenty good enough to me. On Christmas Day, my wife and father-in-law rented "That's Entertainment" for $2.99 (for 48-hours), and my daughter and I later watched "Die Hard" streamed from Netflix. I often search Apple TV and can find nothing to watch, because of the presentation and cumbersome search capabilities. So less than two days using Google TV, that works out to two more movies rented using Google TV (and one streamed for free) than Apple TV (for the month). The Apple TV is boxed; I'm done with it.

Only does 720p which.. when you go high def, seeing 1080p is just remarkable.
Price is actually rather good I think. But if you don't have any Macs in your home there is no reason to have an Apple TV; it is meant to bring the connection from computer and tv, and allow you to stream across them etc.

As with apple, despite this being new.. I would say either wait, or don't get one.

PS3 does blu ray and netflix at 1080p, Xbox does netflix at 1080p, Xbox has the Zune marketplace that you can rent and buy movies, I don't own a PS3 but I'm pretty sure they have a similar market. Xbox connects and works with a PC extremely well with the Media Center. PS3 can turn your TV into a web browser..
Apple TV can't do any of those things, but also half the price.

Depends on what you want.

If you have a mac or two in your home then I would say go with the Apple TV, if not, then it wouldn't make sense and you would be missing a lot of function of the Apple tv.

Little content, its glitchy and freezes up often. I've never gotten it to fully work properly. I also feel its over-priced for the current state of its functionality/features.

Unless I can stream downloaded HD content from my computer to my TV on it, I'm not interested.

That's the purpose of it, it goes vice versa between computer and appletv... if you have a mac.

I think it's overpriced too, which is why I haven't bought one yet. ;)

I got an appleTV over a week ago. I was intially going to get the GoogleTV but I changed my mind after reading all the negative things about it, the main ones being that its slooooow and glitchy. I just don't have the patience for that. I do wish the appleTV came with some sort of keyboard when doing searches or putting in account info. I also wish the remote was a little bigger because I am always losing it. Other than that, I have enjoyed every moment about it. I enjoy watching movies but I hate buying them so it was probably the best investment for me. Having Netflix and being able to stream video, audio, etc content off my iMac made it all worthwhile. I realize that the appleTV doesn't do full HD, but being that my bedroom TV is only 720p, I'm not really hurting over it. For the money, it was worth it, imho.

I love mine. I have about 200 movies converted and stored on my computer. Then I use my AppleTV to stream them. I also have a netflix account.

All in all a great device. And I'm very happy with the quality on my 52" LCD.

And only if you bought it in iTunes or if it's a format iTunes understands, which most of what I download is not.

Yeah, PS3 pretty much wins for that. I thought the roku box let you stream from your lan but I guess it doesn't. One of those cheap-ass boxes does, thought I forget which one.

I went to get it but the mall is closed bc of the snow..dammit. Sounds like it's a good deal. I'm not interested in 1080p althought my 52" lcd is 1080. And yes, we've got two macs in the house. Thanks for the input all.
