I drop off my Speed at the dealer for some work and they give me a auto 3. Let me tell you I hate the car. It has no get up and go. Not to say anything about it not haveing sat radio or the auto lights, No leather, and its just slow. Are they all like this? or is it just because it is a loaner and has been beat to shit over the 9000 miles it has one it?

is it a 3i or sport? If so thats why its slow... The 2004+ GT 2.3 Mazda 3s were amazing little cars, lots of fun to drive, plenty of pep, especially the 5 speeds.
sounds like you got an i automatic, sounds lame!
yeah it must be the i. It has no pep at all.

The base 3 is a superb car for its class. After you get used to less than 14lbs/hp, you can't go back. It's addictive. I'm sorry for you. You'll be paying premiums for performance cars for the rest of your life just like me. Each car serves a purpose. I'm not bashing here. It is what it is.
That I will. I need a fast car and this car just dosen't do it for me. If I went from my explore to this then it would be ok but form the speed3 to just a 3. All I have to say is damn.
I have a touring MZ33 hatch right now that I bought about 5-6 months ago. At the time I was debating between the speed and the regular and decided to be a good boy and save a little more money. It is a great car, but I'm seriously considering getting the speed 3 since my GF is in the market for a car and likes mine. But I went from an '06 STI to the MZ3...try that shock. I got used to the 3 and have no issues with it but I am definately feeling the sports car itch yet again. My right foot is saddened whenever I try to step on the gas and I remember what my STI would do. Since it's only a difference of $60+ at this point (payment and insurance difference, plus switching to premium), I think I'll be getting the speed. The base 3 is a perfect car to get around in, but I know how going from "gogo" to "nono" can leave you feeling bored with driving.

LOL no kidding. My 2004 3s 5dr was a pretty sporty car with acceptable acceleration for most people. I just wanted more :)
I went from a 2004 3i sedan to the MS3. I knew the car wasn't quick but it felt light and tossable. I had a lot of fun in the car. Driving an MS3 has spoiled me for power that I never had on tap before.

You don't know what you're missing because you don't know any better. When you do get that kind of power, you can't live without it.

My $0.02

Thats what I am saying. I can not be with out now. LoL
try getting a mazda2 auto as replacement ride  oh i get the NEO version also

I have an 2004 automatic :( hatch and it's not a bad car... Granted it's kinda depressing when I try to get on it now that I have had a ride in the ms3. But coming from never really riding in anything fast but old muscle cars the 2.3 isn't bad.

But godamn do I want a ms3
Just be glad that you will be back in your ms3 soon... bastard
I had a Black 2004 Mazda 3i before my 2007 Speed3. Yes, it wasn't the fastest car around, but I still drove it faster than half the people that owned Mustang GT's and the like that don't drive them like they're supposed to. Also, very reliable car, never had any problems and only major purchase was new tires at 36,000 which really wasn't necessary but I like new tires. Traded it in with 47,000 miles. I wouldn't want to go back to the 3i after having had the SP3, that's for sure!
a NA auto 3 can be cured with a turbo. But for a stock car, I didnt have any complaints about the speed. Look at the protegespeed, +10 hp only with a turbo over a stock 2.3. 160hp from a 4 cyl isnt bad at all. Try driving a cobalt or cavalier and then you will see some serious lack of power.

A turbo really brings the auto to life.

What made you switch from a STI to a regular 3? Did you totaled it? Got many tickets? I wanted a 3 but I was used to my Forester XT, which performs like a WRX. I knew that a regular 3 would not satisfy me. A CX-7 might have performance wise. Despite the higher weight, it's just faster than a regular 3.
I wanted to save more money.

$520 payment + $280 insurance = $800 per month, and I have a clean record!!!

Add in the 17mpg on premium...and it can be a bit much. I had it for a year and loved it. But I decided to do the smarter thing and save a bit of money. At the time of my decision I was debating back and forth between the regular and speed 3, and went with the regular. Then I went a looked again at it recently and did some number crunching, realized it only cost ~$60 + gas difference to switch if my GF buys my regular 3. She loves it and said she would, so I'm gonna make the switch soon. Had the speed 3 been around when I originally bought the STI I would've probably bought the MS3. I decided I could live with the regular 3, and I can, but for only $60 more now I can make my right foot happy again :D

Crap, that thing is pretty damn small/light. 1700lbs curb weight. Someone should shoehorn the 2.3L DISI Turbo in there!
Car was still slow today... I want my baby back.
