I am now the proud owner of a 2009 mazda 3i-touring for about 2 weeks and I absolutely love the car. Definitely beats the galant I got rid of when I bought this thing, and the handling is like nothing I've ever experienced with any car. I'm glad I found this forum & I can already see why alot of the mazda owners I know are repeat customers.

Welcome to the forum!

Wow, so many people seem to be snatching up the 09's and joining the forum!

I agree on the handling, even stock, it's a great performer. Any plans for the car?

not sure exactly what I'm gonna do yet - I opted for the wing spoiler & I'm definitely going to get tint put in soon, past that I really don't know but i'll be checking in here for ideas

now if i could just figure out why the a/c comes on automatically when you turn the temp. dial all the way down i'd be ecstatic - strange quirk, i know the book says it's supposed to do that but i really wish i could turn that off somehow

anywho, here's my baby - not the clearest pics since i took them on my crackberry but for now it's all i've got:

The A/C should kick in only when the defrost, defrost floor and floor directional flow is selected. It does this as a way to dehumidify the interior.

Unless Mazda made a change for 09, the A/C should not kick on if you have the temp dial at it's coolest setting. Only when you press the A/C button.

Pretty. Metro gray is such a nice color. Make sure to check out the "why you should add a third key" thread stickied up top. You might also want to look into replacing/upgrading the anemic stock horn. Lots of info. on that around.

Welcome and congrats on the purchase.

thanks for the info - out of curiosity, what is involved in changing the horn & what should a new one run me?

I read it in the book after I noticed it happening - it says that if the vent dial is in any position other than defrost & the fan is on when you drop the temp. dial all the way to zero the a/c kicks on automatically. Just wish there was a way to disable this b/c I tend to change the temp. a bit while i'm driving

The horn is just a bolt on with (I believe) two wires. I haven't done it myself since the stock horn really doesn't bother me, but many people complain about it. There are a few threads talking about it, just use the search function to find the walk-through. If the horn doesn't bother you, I'd skip it. First thing I'd do is take care of the puppy-dog tail of an antenna we get. Get a stubby or go to www.sharkfinantenna.com and pick up one of those. Sorry for the long post, but welcome to the forums. :)

If you just add a trumpet low tone to the stock high tone it will cost you about $15. The most common horn replacements are Fiamm Freeway blasters (what I have), hella supertones, sypder (hella clones), wolo, and stebel nautilus (compact dual air horn). There's most certainly a walkthrough on the fiamm's.

Honestly in '07 they improved the 3i (at least on some trims) so much that it really isn't that far below the 3s outside of the engine/brakes. The early years they reserved many options/toys on the upper trims.

I agree & that's exactly why I went for the 3i touring package, gave me everything i wanted except for the wing spoiler & sirius which i got them to throw in anyway lol.

I'm not 100% but from looking at the details on the '10 3i it appears that they're going back to making the stock 3i a little less jazzed up - alot of the features that came stock in my '09 showed up as options on mazda's website.

Mazda actually increased the I model content quite a bit for 10. The only deletion on the Touring is the removal of fogs and leather wheel (these are again only reserved for S tri). Other than that, the 10 Touring has more content then the 09
