Amp installation

Greetings,
I am thinking about adding sub amp to the existing factory stereo. I will be using high level input so won' t need a LOC. Where is the best place to get signal and mount the amp? I would prefer to mount under passenger seat - is there enough room for a fairly small amp? Thanks

Yes, a small sized amp will fit under both front seats. Be warned, there is heating/cooling ducts down there, so you have 2 choices: Elevate the amp over the ducts or the back of the amp towards the ducts.

Best place for signal is behind the headunit.
I loaded my amp under the driver seat. It is mounted on (2) 2 x 2 wood rails to clear the rear heater duct on the floor. They are spray painted black and have velcro mounted on the bottom to keep it from sliding around. I mounted the amp under the seat because I did not want to take up any "live" area in the car, like the trunk.

I took the wiring from behind the head unit like in vaBoom's guide and ran it underthe center console on the passenger side. The + power wire came from battery, through hood release cable hole and down the door side. The ground cable is a drilled hole in the column between doors, sanded to bare metal.

I took some pictures of almost everything. It may supplement vaBoom's guide a little showing a more basic set up than he has. If anyone's interested I can post them to my web site. I have to say his guide helped a LOT and wanted to thank him for posting it.

Go ahead and post them. I have no idea what you're talking about but it never hurts to get a good look at something.
When I was reading the manual, I remember seeing something about "do not put anything under the front seats". I don't remember why, but I know I saw it somewhere. Probaby some sort of sensor...just be careful.
There is a sensor under the seat along with it's wiring, but it clears the amp.

In the interest of keeping all my HB's live space, I'm likely going to do a small amp under one seat and a pancake Kenwood WooX powered sub under the other... modest but I think it'll do. It'd be very helpful to see your amp install photos. Hope you can post them soon.
Thank you,
Ryan
I wanted to go with the Woox too because of it's size... I'm a packaging designer and made a box to the outside dimension of the Woox. Tried to cram it under the passenger seat... no go :-( The Woox does have some rounded edges so maybe you could jam it, but I think it's mostly the thickness. The 4 3/8" is too much to fit between the heater duct and the bottom of the seat. Now maybe if the duct was removed... hmmm there's a thought.
Damn, I forgot about the duct.

Just found this: http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/CLASRV303

Maybe try a box with those dims and see? I just about hit 'send' on my Crutchfield order... guess I should check and make sure first eh!

Yeah that would definately fit under the seat, but I wonder how good it is? I saw this a while back and couldn't find any reviews on it. At least the Woox got good reviews in any of the ones I've read.
Found one review and it's not postive at all: http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/..._id--7226250,review_id--24116,sort--date.html

Soooo.... maybe re-routing that duct is an option. Will have to take a look.
i can't imagine those things sounding good. I heard good things about infiniti's woofer/amp combo. I am sticking with separate amp/sub

Thanks all for the reply
