Xenon and HID are two completly different thing. Xenon are just a typically light bulb with a higher output. Illegal in some provinces.
umm no... the terms Xenon and HID (High Intensity Discharge) are one in the same. HID lighting uses XENON gas in the bulb housing to react with an arcing filament to produce the brighter white/blue light you see... the loosely used term "Xenon" is plastered on all those crappy aftermarket halogen blue bulbs that do nothing more than produce a less bright blue light due to a coating on the glass of the bulb. Don't be fooled, there is no benefit to blue bulbs, they are low quality, too expensive, provide less light and usually end up blinding oncoming drivers due to their lousy quality and the filtering properties of the coating on the glass... dont waste your money.

Slalom is right.

HID bulbs use Xenon gas inside the bulbs.

Some halogen bulbs use xenon gas inside the bulb too....like my Sylvania Silverstars, or my old Sylvania Coolblues. But they still use a filament for the light generating component.

On a side note, MZ6ZoomZoom, do you know if we can get a dealer to install OEM HID's in a non-xenon fitted mz3?

We already have the projection housings and stuff....I believe it's just the ballasts and bulbs.

Halogen bulb uses a filament while a HID lamp doesn't. Halgoen/Xenon light bulb uses either gas and the heat from the filament to energize the light to produce a glow. while halogen produces a more yellowish glow and xenon produce more of a while glow which is closer to the sunlight.

HID lamp creates it lights from electrical discharge between two electrodes.

If you are saying the gas in the lamp are the same, then i would have to agree. but the way the light is produced are two totally different things.

Can you get silverstars for the fog lights in this car?? I was at Canadian tire this past weekend with my friend, picked up a set for his head lights but we couldn't find anything for the fog lights.
By the way he doesn't have a 3... just an escape..

is there a seperate bulb for the low beams and high beams or will one silverstar be ok for each headlight? Whats the bulb code for the Mazda 3

Thanks

I was reading the owner's manual today. It says that light bulb on the fog lights and side turn lights cannot be replaced. You will have to change the whole unit.

Would these items be covered under warranty if the bulbs would burn out. I would hate to have to purchase a whole new fog light assembly/ side turn signal because of a BULB!!

They should be under warranty. The service manager also told me to set the brightness on the dashboard to medium. Coz if the light gets burnout, they will have to take the dashboard apart. Even tho it's under warranty, it would waste up so much time for just getting the a light bulb replaced!!!

Interesting suggestion by the service manager; hopefully medium brightness will be bright enough for me. I usually have the brightness up to the max in my car and in my parents' cars. But I bet w/ electroluminescent gauges, that shouldn't be a problem.

the book states that you have to replace the whole unit for your side marker. NOT your fog lights. Your fog lights uses H11 bulbs, good luck looking for those since most store only carries up to H7 (thats for low beam on the 3). I went to 4 different places and they have never heard of H11. Also, the light bulb fr your turning signal is "tricky" to replace, so mazda dealership will replace that one for you.
