to answer your question, there is nothing wrong with going custom as long as you use quality material and it's mandrel bent.

it's much easier though to just buy one made for the car.

you will still pass inspection though as long as you dont have a pzev motor. if you do, you'll need a cheater harness.

no, it is illegal to remove any emissions equipment from a vehicle.

that being said, you will still pass inspection. the 2nd cat does not handle the primary function in reducing emissions. some people worry about a visual inspection. if you find a inspector who knows which cars come with 1 cat and which come with 2, then he's taking his job a bit too serious.

no, they won't void your warranty. read the magnuson-moss act. i've had my car at mazda many times for warranty work and haven't had a problem.
