Hey, I just got my car back from the shop it's going back to get more body work done tomorrow, I recently got in a accident(mercedes ran me off the road)

But I was wondering what it would take to turn my sedan into a 6 speed? would appreciate the help.

yeah, i went over to my boys shop yesterday all hyped up to do that shit, because I got challenged i guess you could say. When we started looking up all the prices... well lets just say money wasn't a problem till it emptied my bank account... so i kinda steered away from that idea for now, but I still need a little more umph in my 3. So I figured it would be a lot easier to just make it a 6 speed turbo with some internals(bore,sleeve..ect)

no it wont lol, speed 6 is awd. and its proven dumb expensive to put that motor in your car, just spend like 6-8 k and build around a turbo kit. your car is a mazda 3, nothing else.

I may be lost but he said 6 speed, not speed6. Sounded like he wants to put a 6 speed gearbox in it. If not then he's using the wrong terminology.

lol dislectcia at its finest, saw turbo, speed an 6
still way more money than worth, plus 5 gears + boost= less time shifting

I think the problem is this is the OP's 3rd idea in about a week.

1. AWD 3
2. RWD 3 with a 13B
3. 6-speed transmission

Getting a bit ridiculous, he's just jumping all over the place.

6speeds are over rated. more time spent shifting. what do you expect to gain from a six speed other than simply saying "hey.....my cars a 6speed."

what ever happend to putting a rotary in your car?

what ever happend to making it RWD?

what ever happened to making it AWD?

now your putting a 6speed in it?

.................your a tool.

What would I hope to gain? Exactly what I said above, lower rpms at highway speeds. I think a 6-speed would be a great idea if they could keep the bottom 5 at the same ratios they have now (which are fine) with the sixth as just an extra overdrive gear. Think how much that would improve fuel economy on the highway.

that would be great. i would even settle for a lower 5th gear

for the money you'd spending on swapping the gear out, even if you did it yourself, its not worth it. You might as well drop a 6speed in and get real gains in gas mileage

i know nothing of the swap. but this is the responce i got from steve at NSNmotorsports.

The installation is pretty easy. You release the engine mount at the transmission to free the transmission to droop a few inches. Then you take the black cap off the end of the transmission. Once that is off you have access to 5th gear without any issue. Take off the two lock nuts, swap the gears and put it back together. That's about it. The thing that takes the longest is lowering the transmission by freeing that mount so that you can get the cap off past the frame rail.
to me that seems like a much better choice than a 6 speed swap. also, many times 6 speeds do not have a longer final gear..........the ratios are simply split between 6 gears instead of 5 gears. at what RPM do speed3's drive at around 70mph?

i know many of my posts always stem back to my sentra days however. i know a few people with specV 6speed(2005) trannys swapped into their sentra/nx2000's (1991). this involved getting a 2.5 specV trans and getting the gear stacks. then finding an over seas sr20de 20valve trans mission bel housing and swapping it all over. this is very very pricey but it slaps directly onto the sr20 FWD engine and is PERFECT for road racing. for drag racing it actually hurts your times because like i said you sped more time shifting...........for fuel economy it does absolutly nothing because the final gear on the 6 speed is only slightly taller if at all.
