Please for give me if this is posted else where... I did search around first...

My car = 06 MT 5-Door Touring

Am I crazy, or does the A/C run all the time even if the button is off?

Just coming out of winter here and I cranked the temp knob to full cold, and the air seemed to be a bit colder than the outside air. The A/C light is off and the vent control knob is set to lower (or upper/lower).

I would understand if the A/C came on with the defogger... Am I imagining things? :?

PS. I just rolled the big 6k on the odometer... I'm really digging my ride.

In my '07 i, the A/C comes on when the flow dial is at floor or any position clockwise to it. (I think this is documented in the user manual.) I found the A/C also comes on in any flow position when the temperature control is moved to completely cold (the "A/C" and "recirculate" lights will come on if the flow setting is moved counterclockwise of the floor position.)

I dunno if this is a bug in my car, but the A/C and recirc turning on automatically when at "cold" even when floor and defrost are not selected, does annoy me a bit. The first few times it happened I thought I had hit the AC and recirc buttons accidentally. It doesn't happen when one notch from cold, and I can shut the A/C and recirc off by pressing the buttons.

Kinda sounds like what I've got... Full cold = A/C; De-frogger (any temp) = A/C
But my lights do not light.

I have a free oil change due at my stealer soon... I'll mention it... not like they'll do anything, but who knows it might be an issue with my hatchy.

Per the manual (my '05)

In the FLOOR ONLY position, air conditioning
is automatically turned on to defrost
the windshield (however, the
indicator light does not illuminate)

Of course it also says that the AC compressor is on for WINDSHIELD and WINDSHIELD/FLOOR positions but we already knew that.

The manual has pictures showing the dashboard with arrows representing air flow coming out of the various vents for each corresponding position on the dial. Curiously, the FLOOR only position shows arrows not only coming from the floor vents but also the windshield vents too! Why? Isn't this what the FLOOR/WINDSHIELD position is for?

Guess I've been driving with my AC compressor on all the time since I tend to keep the dial in the FLOOR only position. Maybe my gas mileage will improve now that I know I shouldn't do this. What a rather dumb design.
