Anyone having issues finding 5w-20 Mobil 1 or even other brands? I had to go to three different wal marts just to get enough for an oil change. It's been like this for a while now and it's getting annoying. Is 5-20 the new standard thus making it more in demand or do they make less of it for some reason? I figured I'd try Castrol Edge this time but they didn't have 5-20 either.

That might be your first problem lol. I'm sure most auto-parts and service stores would stock an abundant supply of this weight. Seeing as they need to keep a sufficient amount of stock for those who drive up requiring routine oil changes.

Wal mart carries the 5 quart jug which is like $24 compared to the $33 if you buy it by the quart. But they had plenty of Mobil 1 5-30 jugs.

i have the same problem. went to 3 last oil change, only 1 had mobil1. they don't stock anything at walmart very well. best bet is to keep an extra gallon laying around or buy a week before.

I just do advanced auto for my oil. I always buy whatever they are having a deal on.

Most times I can get 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter, or Castrol Syntec and a K&N or other performance filter for $30.

Not like the screaming deal of the century, but still a pretty good value.

I tend to stock up whenever I am there

"Having a deal on mobil 1 oil and filter, why yes sir I was hear for a fuse, but I'll take one of those as well!"

I have 3 spare filters laying around because of this (cheap filter, but good synthetic oil for the deal. Cheaper to do that and buy a good filter along with it and 'ditch' the cheapie filter). Also a couple of quarts for my wife's subie (5w40) and 3 for mine (5W20).

Re: Mobil 1 5w20, yes I have a hard time finding it. Canadian Tire and Wal-Mart both have 1 facing of it and they are always sold out. Lots of 5w30 tho.

Thank you. So it's not an exclusive issue to my area.

[/quote]As I understand it from people in the industry both Mobil 1 and Penzzoil Platinum are being phased out by retailers for the newer higher performing types of oil like Pennzoil Ultra :csweeney:

I don't know WHERE you would have heard that but there's no way anybody is phasing out Mobil 1.

They will as soon as they have a product that competes with Pennzoil Ultra. Mobil may still call it "Mobil 1 blah blah blah" for marketing reasons, but the current formulation will be phased out.

I usually get quarts of Motorcraft at Pep Boys, $5, but they were strangely out of it and the castrol equivalent (like you said) last time i was there, so I went to Auto-Zone and found the 5-quart Motorcraft jug for about $15. Not a bad deal.
