Well not quite...it was actually 31.8 MPG. Drove from Dallas to New Orleans and back. 435 miles to the tank, MPG calculator estimated 33.5 MPG...guess that's not too far off. Overall I was impressed, didn't know she had it in her. Guess thats to show, if you can keep your foot out of the boost, you can get really good mileage.

good to hear, I knew it could be done :)
I think most of us here agree that the mpg calculator is a good 2mpg off the mark. I wonder if by chance that is due to the odometer being screwed up, sure hope not, Id hate to pack on the miles faster than im actually driving.

ya... he got drunk one afternoon and wrote an essay about all of his cars, and cops and such. Pretty interesting stuff. I am sure he would like to see this.
It's gonna be funny if he does. He will explain how he's economy minded and yet still pinches pennys and makes a ton of money so he really doesn't have too. I guess he's a model we all should try to follow. If I had 15 cars and a Harley I don't think I would be concerned about the MPG of the MS3..........

Opps, sorry about getting off topic
Wouldn't the hills equal out on a round-trip drive, - MPG going up, + MPG going down ?

That number is much higher than what I am experiencing. 3 weeks ago I went from Detroit to Kalamazoo and back. 250 freeway miles, 5 city miles, cruise set at 78 mph, route couldn't be any flatter. Mileage was 25.5 mpg and I was shocked that it was this low. My previous 3 hatch would get 33 on this same trip. There are a couple of caveats though: 1) it was cold as hell outside (teens thru mid 20's), 2) CEL is on (I am assuming P0226 code).

Any thoughts on the disparity between mine results vs. others?? Are the aerodynamics that different from my previous car? Tire effects (running siped Falken ZE512)? Bueller? Bueller?

the mazdaspeed3 is 373lbs heavier than the 3 hatch. cold should make the speed3 run better and the cel has no effect on mpg.

I just drove from Daytona Beach to Atlanta, 6.5 Hours and 32 MPG. Then Atlanta to Greenville, SC, 3 Hours, 33 MPG. Not bad at all if you ask me, since the sticker on the car said 28 Hwy. Cruise set about 75 most of the way and no A/C.

You were probably using the winter mix of gas (whatever additives they automatically put int), which gets worse mileage. Everyone else saying they got 30+ mpg seem to be down south. I wouldn't have thought it would make 5mpg difference though.
