all

yesterday we ran over a tire tread and pulled the lower splash panels and inner left "drivers side" fender panels off. local dealer said we also need to replace the front bumper, outside temperature sensor at $60 and a wiring harness that costs $1500 bucks!! does anybody know if you can find aftermarket harness! And does $1500 bucks sound like the correct price??

all up repair comes to about $3500.00 Glad the cost of gas has gone down:)

thanks

Have you contacted your insurance company to see if they would cover it? Depending on the situation, it could be covered under either comprehensive or a not-at-fault collision. I'm sure your deductible is significantly cheaper than all those repairs, and then you don't have to worry about skimping out on replacement parts or paint.

that actually sounds about right (the list price on the harness) but do you know what is actually broken?
some people have taken the cars to the dealership with broken MAF wires and been told they need a whole new harness (when actually MAF wires can be repaired without replacing the entire harness).

i wouldn't be surprised to hear that all the hurting dealerships are hammering on service for extra income. (meaning they might be fixing things that don't need fixing...not that dishonest mechanics haven't been doing that all along, dealership or not.)

Find out which connectors actually need to be repaired/replace, then do it yourself or have a friend thats decent at electrical do it. Service Advisors don't want to repair just a couple connectors when they can sell you the whole harness & make more money. Techs. can go either way depending on the amount of connectors. They will most likely go the route that will net them the most labor hours.

So, the suggestion about the insurance would be your best bet if you can't do the connector repairs.
