Hey.

I went into Best Buy the other day, and they told me that they don't have an installation kit for the 2007 Mazda 3's. I checked around online and found some websites that say their kits are for 2004-up, and some that just say 2004-2006.

I'm looking to get a single-DIN head unit in the next couple of weeks, and wanted to know what was out there for me to do concerning the dash kit options. My dash doesn't seem to be too different from the past years, so it confuses me as to why the ones from previous years wouldn't fit.

Anybody out there that knows more about this, or who has a 2007 that installed an aftermarket radio, let me know the solution you found.

Thanks a lot!

ZKrazy-

That's almost the exact H.U. I'm looking at getting. And after hearing from everyone else, it sounds like the Scosche is the way to go for cleanliness, glare, etc. Plus, with the monitor opened, it wouldn't block the vents, which I guess is nice. But I like the way the metra has the pocket below, so that you can have something there accessible when the monitor's open (like a CD/DVD wallet, etc.), and the monitor would be higher and easier to watch. Guess that's just the trade-offs that everyone has to decide on for themselves.

Do you have any pictures of yours with the monitor open, so that I can see about how high it comes to and such, and maybe what the GUI looks like for that one for MP3s, Divx files, etc.?

Sokool - I'm guessing there's no easy fix to the Metra 'bulge' thing by just snapping off one of the connectors at that one point? It's tough to tell from the pick what exactly is causing the problem and if it's at all solveable.

The Jensen dvd motorized dash unit that zkrazy has is the one i just sold because i'm looking into going carputer style with an oem looking top dash flip up monitor. The unit is priced low these days (almost 60% from the pioneer ones), but watch for freezing issues in songs every once in a while. I personally don't like modding the stock interior's look since it's the reason why i bought the car, but if i had to change it, i would go with the scosche kit. Either way, both types will fit your 07 regardless if it says up until 06.

So does the metra, just fits crappy at the top on the trim. Here is a pic of my setup I found, its an Alpine CDA-9853 if you care. Note gap at top.

The metra kit fits like that when your using the pocket they supply. When i was using my single din metra i hacked up the bracket to fit the lcd instead of that stupid pocket and it fits and looks so much better. I recently switched to a double din but here is my current setup. You can see that it looks a little better with the lcd.

BTW. Phantom blue FTW. But pull those moldings off!

NightRider - The HU I'm getting is actually off eBay. It's Innovatek. $360. Plays Divx, MP3, and all that stuff, too. I originally was gonna get a JVC HU, and get either the motorized or Japanparts upper-dash monitor display, but with the problems I've heard about JVCs acting strange with MP3s (not remembering last point in song when switching sources around, and long database load times), I started looking elsewhere. The Jensen looked nice, but has a bunch of problems, too, which lots of people pointed out. So, I'm going with one that is neither brand, which could be even worse than either, but for 360 for a motorized 7" LCD, as long as it plays anything, I shouldn't complain too much. And from what I've heard, the screens aren't too too bad for the money, either.

Also, I got the Scosche kit and wiring harness on eBay for like $20 combined, so I'll be set and ready for when the HU gets here.

mentalcase - Good to know about that Metra kit. Had I known that, I may have gone for the Metra afterall. It'd be nice to keep the LCD, but really, I wouldn't use it that much anymore, since my clock doesn't keep time right anyways (over 3 weeks, it sped up about 10 minutes), and without the ability to toggle through the DIS, it isn't as fun. Though the external temperature's nice to know, I wouldn't mind departing with it. But that's a nice setup you have. Looks real clean.

And on the moldings... I dunno... I actually kind of like them on my car... The car looks too clean without them there... It's kind of how I think I look weird if I shave my goatee off.. but that's just me.

Either way, gotta love the Phantom. As for you, get some tints! I just got mine 15% all around, and it's beautiful. I still gotta get pics up, though.

The tints coming. I just dropped some serious cash on the head unit so the tints gotta wait. I thought the same way about the moldings when i had em, but now with them off i like the look so much better. Its personal taste though.
