Is the M3-4 door sedan available yet in the "S" 2.3L engine? When I got to Mazda's website, I cannot even pick the 2.3L when searching inventory.

Thanks.

Yea, there are a few people with the Sedan 3s.

Its possible you cant choose the 2.3l because noone has one.

If you're talking about the dealer search, it only gives you a 2.0 option. The 2.3 is available on the market, but for some reason it is not an option on the inventory search. Do the search without an engine choice, and when your results come up, they will show you whether they are the "i" or "s".

Mazda search

Yeah, I tried leaving all fields to "ALL" and then sort by engine type. Even went to different parts of the country. Still only the 2.0L shows in their results.

Even though it shows 2.0 on the page, as long as you set the trim level to "s", you'll be searching the 2.3L. I just looked up mine on the mazda page and it comes up as a 2.0 with an "S4" trim leveland it's a 2.3L. As long as you're not looking at an "i" it's a 2.3L.

picking s4 trim

The "S4" trim doesn't work either as this is for the sedan 4 door. The results give me cars in my area which I know are only the 2.0L. Mazda needs to edit their configuration to allow for a "S4" trim with 2.3L engine. I have sent their site an e-mail but not sure how responsive they will be.

As was mentioned previously DO NOT select an engine option. As long as you selct S4 for your trim option, you are also selecting the 2.3 engine, it's the only engine avaiable in the US with the S trim. All the other option choices work fine on the inventory search.

The same is true of the 5-door hatch. If you select an engine the inventory comes up with no hits.

trim selection

No, the S4 is for the Sedan 4 door vs the Hatchback. But of course for the S4, you can get the "regular" 4 door and then the Sport (the S in S4 is for sedan, not sport).

I did select NO Engine type and I got 6 hits for my local dealer and those are just the M3-4 door option but are not the SPORT editions.

Mazda site

Yeah, you can select the "S" instead of the "I" but the results come back for both (even though the "S" is selected). The results indicate my local car dealerships as "S" cars but all the cars on their lots are "I"s. Mazda wrote me back indicating they were just building the M3 inventory, etc. and that there might be some problems.

Here is the format used by Mazda USA to identify the Mazda3: BBB ED T

the first three characters "BBB" designates the body style:
- M3H: Hatchbach
- M3S: Sedan

the next one or two characters "ED" designates the engine and # of doors
- S5: 2.3L + 5 door
- S4: 2.3L + 4 door
- i: 2.0L (no # of door)

the last character "T" designates the transmission
- A: Automatic transmission
- P: Manual transmission

few examples:

M3H S5 A (MAZDA3 hatchback, 2.3L-5 doors, AT)
M3H S5 P (same but P=manual transmission)
M3S S4 A (MAZDA3 sedan, 2.3l-4 door, AT)
M3S S4 P (again...same in a manual)
M3S i A (Mazda3 sedan, 2.0l-4 door, AT)
M3S i P (yep same in a manual)

The most accurate way to check the body style/engine is by the VIN number

Sedan 2.3L: JM1 BK1230 41 1...
Sedan 2.0L: JM1 BK12F1 41 1...
Hatch 2.3L: JM1 BK1430 41 1...

VIN

Bruno,

Don't think the VIN is working like that in USA. Got below from the search on MazdaUSA.
JM1BK123X41138130

which I think, according to search, is a Sedan "i"...

BTW, nice web site on M3.

Not sure about the sedans, but my 2.3L Hatch VIN starts with
JM1 BK1434 41 1...

Don't know if this helps the discussion or not.

Thanks all, actually VIN should be like this

Sedan 2.3L: JM1 BK123? 41 1...
Sedan 2.0L: JM1 BK12F? 41 1...
Hatch 2.3L: JM1 BK143? 41 1...

because the last digit of BK???? is a check digit, which depends on later part of the VIN (series). Sorry for the confusion.
