17x6.5 Rotas a possibility for HS

For those running H Stock that are stuck with the 17x6.5 size such as myself, I'm talking to a guy that can get us some custom lightweight Rotas for a real good price. We need to find out how many people would be interested since he'd need to order 10 sets. If you're interested, please reply to this thread.

The wheels are Rota Slipstreams seen here: http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/1020#

They should be under 16 lbs. when produced. We'd also have to agree on one color.

Thanks,
Don

i'd be interested, depending on price of course ...
Are the Slipstreams the lightest style that can be resized to 17x6.5? I tried to find out from Rota last year but I couldnt get a strait answer out of them.
I'll probably be in for a set... also depending on the price, final weight and timeframe.

I dont care what color they are. :klavergreg:
Interesting.  I contacted a large Rota distributor who contacted the Rota factory in the Phillipines last year and they told me there are currently no molds for 17x6.5" and that a custom mold would require a significant cash outlay to produce.

It's too bad this didn't come earlier, I just purchased a miata and will stop racing the 3 at the end of this season.

This is through a fellow SCCA member who works for BlackwatchRacing.com and has close ties with Rota. He just did the same deal for 7 sets of 16x6.5 Rotas (same style). They were 14 pounds and he's offering them for $625 for the set of 4. A great price if you ask me which is why I'm trying to get 10 people interested. I want some!
I did the dance for rota for some torques awhile back. Solid 3 month wait. Just thought Id throw it out there.
From what I understand, this guy has a pretty tight relationship with Rota. Shouldn't take that long.
Alot depends on how they ship it. Mine went sea, air would have been alot of $ that I didnt want to spend.
What if the rims are the same size but there are different bolt patterns? Maybe it will be easier to meet the minnimum # of sets if we can get some other makes of cars in on the group buy. I think the new eclipse has 17x6.5's, any others you can think of? I'll do some research.
Im assuming its a 7" wide, comes with 225s. Email 18racing. Thats who I did the first run through.
I'll call the guy tomorrow. I was hoping to get a few more interested parties, but he might already have a list.
I just checked, it looks like the eclipse has the same bolt pattern as us as well! and it is a 17x6.5. It does have a slightly different offset though.

What offset were you going to get? If it is a little more pushed out then now that would be cool.

also the Pontiac Grand Prix also has 17x6.5's and so do a few other Chevys.
Unfortunately not a whole lot of those are serious autox cars, which basically means if they were looking for alternate wheels, they're likely to get a wider wheel. Hell if it wasn't for being in stock class, I'd run the set I have on there for daily driving which are the 17x8 Enkei's I had on my G35. They fit great on there.
I am interested in getting some of course depending on cost time frame doesn't matter because i don't think ill need them this season but definitely for next season.
