Is this the most powerful naturally aspirated, regular unleaded 2.0L engine out there? and Is this the most powerful car in its class?

When you compare it to the Corolla, Civic, Sentra, yes. I'm not sure what engine the Aerio has though - I remember it was powerful (but the car is still nasty).

in its car class? I'm not sure what litre engine the sentra is. I'm sure the Spec V has more litres than 2.0. but in terms of the engine class...2.0 148 hp isn't that much....e.g. S2000 2.0litres 200 hp I think?

Suzuki Aerio uses a 2.3L engine to produce 155hp.

The Mazda 3 has the most hp in its class, from what I can tell. Dodge SX 2.0 has 140hp...

most powerful? Hard to say. The torque is only 138hp... actually, that's quite a lot for C-class :p

Let's be honest guys, just 3-4 yrs ago this was unheard of in this class and price range, so let's all be happy.

If you guys remember, the Protege was usually the most powerful car in its class in NA - that 1.8L engine in the 90s was a killer compared to the 105Hp of the Civics...

I'm talking about compact-car class. I thought the SE-R was in some higher class (165 hp and 175 hp [SpecV]). Also, the S2000 is a 2.0L that makes 240 hp, but it requires premium fuel, I am just concerned about regular unleaded...

You also have to realize that that 240 hp comes in at 9000 RPM, which calculates to 140 lb.-ft. If that is translated to 6500 RPM, then it's only 173 hp, which puts it a little more in perspective.

In Europe Mazda3 with 2.0 engine has also one of the most poweful engines in it's class. The most of it's competitors provides about 130-136hp with 2.0 engine. Civic Type-R gives 200hp, but it's 4000€ more expensive than 3.

Aren't we talking C-class here? ;)

From my Gran Turismo knowledge, the Type-R Civic is in B-class and the S2000 is in C-class.

The Toyota Corolla S is in family class :p

Mazda3 has most powerful engine in its class. But S2000 is probably the most powerful 2.0L N/A engine.
This is what I was talkin about. anyways when I posted my message I said MZ3 probably one of the top in its car class (c-class) but not in terms of engine class (S2000 also has 2.0 even though its being bumped up this coming year). My brothers 1.6 or 1.7 litre civic 2000 SiR (Si) puts out I think 160 and only 111 torque. It takes premium. but like dinu01 said, I am also grateful for what powe we get with REGULAR fuel.

Honda rules in putting Hi HP+hi REV in smaller engines. Look at the new TL with a 3.2L putting out 270HP.

Put the new 3.2 TL engine into a Mazda6, whoa! That'd be one hell of a car!
