SRI mods

So I'm looking into SRIs for my 3 and I'm not seeing a lot of options when it comes to heat shields. I live in California so options are already severely limited, but of the options out there, does anyone know of any heat shields that are more or less "universal"? Probably not but thought I'd ask.

I was also wondering if anyone has tried to modify the stock air box to allow a SRI to fit inside. This is mainly because I had an integra and there was an "ice box" intake that was basically an SRI inside a modified version of the air filter housing to lessen heat soak. I thought about widening the air tube hole in the stock air box and removing the resonator and tubing from the bottom of the air box and replace it with some pvc tubing that ends in a velocity stack and position that where a CAI filter would sit.

What kind of effect would have on the SRI? Will it be a hindrance? Will I end up creating something that could make me a millionaire in a few years? I have no idea so I thought I'd ask!

The intake on your car is pretty well designed; I wouldn't expect any noticeable difference from modding the intake, errr, except maybe for some more noise. Will it make you a millionaire? Nope, not a chance.

I looked into hps but I need that carb sticker man! Unless their heat shield can be purchased separately and will fit onto a takeda sri

Since my 3 is a dd and SRIs typically move power to low and mid rpms, a SRI would be nice for "spirited driving."

I'm saying dollars to donuts an application SRI does nothing positive for your powerband, even down low.

I understand that I will be getting no extra power, but having my existing power shifted down a little lower would be nice in my dd.

This is mostly so see if modding the stock box to house an SRI will have NO negative effects on it. Plus, I like the idea of a louder, "performance" intake with a stock look.

I'm in California and I've never been asked anything about needing a CARB sticker on my intake.

Dude, I am so unlucky. I seem to always get the anal smog refs cus they always ask and look my numbers up. Probably didn't help that my cars have always looked like they were modified though...

That's messed up that they would act anal. The tech's at smog stations I've been to here in California could care less about what mods you have installed as long as the vehicle passes the smog test. Not only does my 3 have the HPS sri, it also has a Racing Beat catback exhaust system installed. In fact, the tech even complimented me on the nice sound coming from the exhaust and intake. Here is my 3...
