Focus or hold out for '13 M3 next year?

What's up everyone,

I bought my '06 M3 i touring back in '08 w/ 27k miles. Been loving it ever since but not loving the gas mileage.

I recently found out the car might have been in an unreported accident (frontal) when I took my car to the shop and they showed me the evidence of the body work and paint job. I replaced the driver-side front wheel bearing about a year ago. Now it seems the suspension is starting to go. (Struts and shocks at least) I'm saving to fix the immediate concern, replacing the struts, but I'm not sure its worth investing thousands into a car I'm not finished paying off.

My question is do you think the late release this year of the 2012 M3 will push back the 'traditional' early spring release of the redesigned '13 M3?

I wanted a car with good mpg and was looking at the '12 Focus, but then Mazda announced the new SKY 40mpg engines. Now I'm deciding between the '12 Focus or holding out for the redesigned '13 M3 next year (I don't like the current styling and I want to see how the SKY-g holds up)

Thanks

There is no evidence that the 2013 models will be redesigned -- the last redesign was just in 2010, and Mazda's refreshing the front end of the 2012's a little bit. The soonest I'd expect to see a complete redesign of the 3 would be for the 2015 model year (since 5-year refresh cycles are common to Mazda and the auto industry in general).

MY12 Mazda3/Mazdaspeed3's are being refreshed. The last gen was around for 6 MY's. I highly doubt there will be a newly styled MY13.

I'm biased, but i went from a Mazda 3 to the new 2012 Ford Focus Sedan..... and totally love the transformation.

This is how the 2012 Mazda3 looks with the toned-down smile. You can expect it to look like this for 2-3 more years:

I'd say test-drive both once the 2012 MZ3 Sky-G is available, then pick the one you like best. Personally, I'd wait a year so that the first-year bugs are worked out before buying one or the other. Of course, I'm also holding out for the new Focus ST, but both the MZ3 Sky-G hatch and regular Focus hatch are both on my radar for future MS3 replacements.

The Focus ST is the one to watch for!

Hey thanks for all the responses and info.

Well the new gen hatch styling has grown on me considerably. So for me its between the Mz3 Sky Hatch and a Focus SE sedan. Im leaning towards the Mazda at the moment, but I only hope it isnt too expensive compared to the current 5-door.

Only thing is, ill have them throw on some stock S sport wheels, those 'windmills' are ugly.

Isnt the Focus ST stick shift only and it will be quite expensive, more than a GTI.

Yes, Focus ST is to be a 6 speed manual. The pricing has not been announce as of yet, but my guess is, a fully loaded Focus ST would in the $27-$28K range.
