Back in the Mazda family now! 2012 White Pearl HB w/ SkyActiv

It's been a few years since I've been on this forum. After hydrolocking my last mazda3, I got a 2006 Volvo S40 T5( LOVED that car!); but I recently was run off the road by an 18 wheeler and hit a concrete wall going ~65mph. Luckily I was fine, but the car was totalled..

Here's the Volvo:

So I grabbed me a 2012 Mazda3 hatchback! My first HB, so woohoo! I went with the 2.0 because of the gas mileage, and so far it has been amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when I throw some bikes and kayaks on the roof, but I don't see it dropping below the high 30's on the interstate..

Here are a few pics. It's only a week old, so there's nothing too crazy done to it..

Threw a roof rack on it this morning

I'm glad to hear the S40 did its job and you weren't hurt! I almost bought a new 2005 Volvo S40 (base 2.4i, 5-speed, white/black cloth, no options)...all I could afford at the time. Then I learned how much DNA the Mazda3 shared with the Volvo and ended up getting my 2006 MZ3 s 5-door for about $4k less than the S40! =)

Is your new 2012 MZ3 the 'Touring' or 'Grand Touring' model? And if it's the Touring, did you get the 6-speed manual or automatic?

Are you satisfied with the performance of the SKYACTIV powertrain, especially coming from a turbocharged 5-cylinder in the Volvo?

I'm planning to replace my 2006 MZ3 with a new one in the next year. I just wish that 5-door i Grand Touring was available with the 6-speed manual, not just the automatic!?!? I'm hoping they fix that for 2013...

Yea, if I can ever afford another fully loaded Volvo, I'll definitely get one! Just too much money right now..

I got the Grand Touring model(bose/skyroof), so it's got the automatic transmission. I must note though that it is an incredibly smooth and "efficient" feeling transmission! I hope it continues to feel this way, but I've been very impressed with the entire SKYACTIV package so far.

As you could guess, there's a significant difference in power between the T5 and 2.0 MZ3. My choice to go with the 2.0 SKY model was very heavily based on the high gas mileage it gets. I tend to travel a decent bit to go kayaking, so I was willing to give up some power to accommodate cheaper trips at the pump!

I definitely won't be racing people on the interstate or at red lights, but I've kinda moved past that stage in my life. However, I drive an hour round trip on the interstate Monday-Friday, and I have absolutely no problem navigating through traffic or hesitating to make a risky move and pass someone. Just like my last MZ3, this thing is absolutely FUN to drive! AND it gets great mileage..can't ask much more in my book.
