Hstreet -> STF build

Hello, my name is Kevin and I've been addicted to autocrossing since 2002 and have known Scott (Mazda3az) since I was a noob. Hi Scott! I've been lurking on this form for a while, and it's time to share my insanity with this helpful group.

I've taken almost a year off from the sport due and it's been too long. I've had a lot of fun dedicated autox rides: Neon ACR (GS), S2000 (BS/AS), 99 miata (CS, CSP, SSM) 07 Mx4 (STR). I sold my last autox ride, the STR car, when I moved from AZ to IL.

No more dedicated autox rides for me at this time, so I was going to run my '08 Hatch in Hstreet. I picked up a used MS3 rear bar for cheap and had a set of 16x6.5" wheels from my STR car. After reading all the great build threads here, I don't think I can handle a season in Hstreet without my good friend, camber, so it's time to contemplate an stf build for a fun autox car that is also a reasonably daily driver.

I want to start out with a simple value build: wheels, tires, and suspension.

Wheels
Konig Oversteer 16x7.5 +45
Under $400 shipped

Tires
205/55/16 dunlop zii star specs, because I already have them
I want to run tires close to the stock diameter. Not interested in the 15" setup (at this time, but as an addict I reserve the right to change my mind over and over)

Suspension
-Corksport MS3 rear bar, because I already have it
-Corksport camber plates ~$360
-Bilstein B14 Coilovers ~$1100. I'm a huge fan of bilsteins. I'm not looking to set the world on fire, so I can live without knobs. Adam seems to be doing alright with his setup.

For ~$2000 I think this will be significantly more fun than Hstreet.

Other stuff will be done as/if needed:
-upgraded brake pads
-passenger side motor mount
-rear motor mount
-rear camber arms

I'm open to feedback on the above "build'. My car is painfully stock, so I won't bother posting any pics of it yet.

Subbed to see progress. Gonna be picking up an H street prepped 3 this weekend, and plan on taking it to STF as well. Looking forward to it!

Yup great to see more and more builds starting up. Best of luck Kevin!

I would put the motor mounts in the must have list...at the very least the pass and rear mounts. They also make the engine sound louder and who doesn't love that!?!

Also, you have a PM from me.

The motor mounts will happen, but probably not for my first STF event on 5/3. Motor mounts should be doable by my first Milwaukee event on 5/24.

Kind of bummed the Chicago region hasn't been able to post a schedule.

FWIW, I'm personally not a fan of changing all three motor mounts to the more solid variety. I believe there is a point of diminishing return with these, especially with street-driven cars.

I have only changed the rear motor mount, and have not had any passenger-side mount failures. Also, I suspect that I am experiencing far fewer insidious vibrations than others.

Agree, for daily driven vehicles I'd just do the rear mount. I have all 3 mounts done on mine and it vibrates and shakes the dash like crazy with the a/c on, and that's with 70 duro mounts lol. With no a/c it's not too bad though.

Also doing the rear mount only makes more sense as far as offering the correct and balanced support for the engine. In my opinion, either do all 3 or just do the rear, doing 2/3 mounts makes no sense to me.
