How would you compare the Z2* with the rs3v2? Clearly you've got them figured out at this point.

Well, let me put it this way, if the 225/45/15 RS3 V2's are regular cable, the 205/50/15 Dunlops are high def blue ray. Every input is just sharper which really inspires confidence. Very nice balance of grip and responsiveness with this setup.

I think the reason for this change in feel is two fold, 1. I believe the Dunlop is just a more precise tire. 2. The change to the skinnier width compounded this effect. I think Tilus was on to something when he chose to run skinny tires all this past season and I'm a believer now.

butt feelings and all are well and good but back to back testing is what makes the difference. New tires vs new tires...etc. Then comes the testing of shaved or not. Maybe shaved V2s might not overheat as quickly. Something to consider IMO is weight. Say Justin weighs in at 2400lbs. About 60% on the nose (probably more but we'll start there). 1440lbs at rest. Under braking I fully expect at least 80% weight on the nose. So that's 1920lbs.

The 195 Kook is rated at 1168lbs per tire. Which is only 33lbs less than the 225 kook. This assumes 51psi which NONE of us run. So the 195 kook Should be workable by weight on the 3 in theory. It is shorter, but it is narrower.

Long ago I learned that feeling in the car is only good for your mental percepetion of things. If I feel the car is faster then I'm going to run this setup. However, if I run another setup and it feels slower, but it's faster on the stopwatch. What feels good will be redefined in my mind so to speak. What feels best or fastest or right isn'y always right.

Anyways back to load ratings...the 195 Toyo is a 1047lb load rated tire. So it would not work on the 3. The ONLY reason it worked on the mini was because of the surface IMO. I honestly think if Lee had the 195 Hankook square on his mini he'd have been just as fast. If not faster.

So the 195 kook is an XL rated tire (86 load rating). The 205 Z2 star spec is also a 86. The 195 star spec however is a 82 load rating like the Toyo. I think Justin MIGHT be able to make it work. The 2 will be able to for sure. The Mini MIGHT be able to. But the 3 being 2650 lets say in fighting trim is 1590 up front at rest and 2120 under braking...not a chance.

Just my thoughts. A 205 or 195 will always be more responsive and feel more crisp than a 225 on a 7.5" wheel. But until someone actually tests them back to back on a test day there is no data other than good feelings and our best guesses.

On the mini I did tire testing with new sticker, new shaved and worn tires. All the same size, offset, weight, etc wheels on a single practice day. The shaved tires were the fastest out of the box, but not enough to justify shaving IMO. All in BFG.

Anyway. I'm curious to see Adam on the 205 Z2 star spec

This is why I've been pushing for wider wheels. 225's want more than a 7.5" wheel. Will they work? Sure, but you're not getting the most out of the tire, which defeats the purpose. I still think wheel widths should be unlimited for all Street Touring classes. Instead, just set max tire widths. Keep 225's as max tire width for STF. If someone wants to pinch a 225 on a 5" wheel, or stretch it on a 10" wheel... let 'em! The sweet spot for a 225 is going to be somewhere between 8 and 9 inches. I'm perfectly fine with letting everyone in STF have wider wheels. I don't really see the downside.

Anyways, 2015 will be an interesting year in tires. Glad to know the ZII StarSpec might be a contender!

I'm with ya man. I'm thinking about picking up another set of 15x7.5" slips so I can do some proper testing and get some tangible data next year.

THIS. I've never understood the wheel limitation either. STU allows for any wheel width and they haven't fallen off the deep end. Rather than restricting us to 7.5", let us play around with wheel widths, while limiting tire to 225, and let the class runners decide where the best width is. It's Keynesian vs supply-side economics.

There's my results from Saturday. I'm getting better. This is only my third event this summer but I plan on getting into it more next year.

Good job and keep at it, with time and practice you'll continue to just get better and better.
