Intel's STF autox beginner thread

Figure with the amount I have been reading here I would throw my hat in here. Been learning a ton about setups.

Did my first learning event with Windy City SCCA in 2011 in my 1996 Maxima in STS. I had a blast and intended on racing the rest of the season. I only ended up getting out there maybe 2-3 times due to Family health issues. 2012 I managed to get mono and couldn't wrench let alone drive and 2013 my 1990 300zx decided it needed a new motor which killed my budget and time

Koni yellow, eibach springs, y-pipe, catback exhaust and intake and a lot of replacement bushings/metal parts for the amount of rust/wear it had at 190k miles.

In that time I managed to need a new car and ended up with a 2012 Skyactiv.

Mostly need to work on the nut behind the wheel this year. Hoping to bring it to some HPDE's with it also, if my 300zx decides it doesn't want to play.

Corksport SRI
Tri-point RSB
Hawk brake pads
Sitting on 16x7.5 SSR Type-C's I bought for the maxima. Running Bridgestone re050a pole positions.
Also have a set of 300zx wheels with super old star specs on them.

Hoping to see where I left my driving skills once all of this white stuff disappears.

If I had a magical wallet/and endless time this season I would probably be steering towards these goals.
Way more seat time at as many autox's I can manage
Better seat (Hoping the cg-lock will keep me in for now)
Better tires
Koni+GC
Camber plates

Looking forward to following your build! I'm just a couple hours south of you and did an event last October there at Route 66 Raceway. I know several of the Chicago region guys and always have fun up there

The fun people plus driving are why I want to get back into it once this white stuff gets off the ground. Interested to see how the Skyactiv holds up as it isn't as light as some of your cars. I know the curb weight is like 2850-2900 as I have the super base model as the sunroof did not agree with my head. I need to bug one of my friends to get it on real scales just to see where my starting baseline is. Gearing seems ok, the maxima really got me spoiled though with 190hp and 210 tq. Having an independent rear suspension vs the minivan beam will be different though.

sticker..create a thread...we'll help.

Intel the CG is a lot better than nothing, but a race seat is wonderful. If you're good at medium skill fabrication work then you can put in a race seat. I used various buts of flat and angled steel and a corbeau bracket and double locking slider (because it was the cheapest). I then mounted an ultrashield SM seat. Under $300 for the seat new shipped and about $150 shipped on the bracket. I use a stock belt and i don't move at all

Thanks for the info. I still have to daily drive this car about an hour each way so I will have to find a decent seat for those duties. Or switch it out for the weekends if I do go with a bucket. I am also a bigger guy. I do know I hate slipping around so it is high on my list for driver enjoyment.

A Schroth harness is another great option on a budget. You can usually pick up used ones pretty cheap and installation is simple.

So I have been searching around. I know we can replace our motor mounts if it has less metal/weight then the existing one. So my question here are there any motor mounts that are known to be illegal? I am looking at the cp-e or JBR rmm at the minimum. The side mounts seems to be redone on a lot of them to add a lot more structure. Figure I should ask now before making a dumb purchase.

I just know I loved the feeling on my maxima going to energy suspension inserts. Even if it was a huge pain the butt to install.

Awr makes a great passenger mount that I use. The bushings swap out for fresh ones in literally 5 minutes.

Rear I use a white line insert. Trans mount is OE replacement off eBay.

So I put my tri-point RSB and Wheels back on now that it is finally spring. Hoping to make it out to an event soon once my weekends are free in 4-5 weeks.

Going to track down a RMM. Drive it a couple of times to see where my baseline is and go from there. 300zx is getting tuned in june and then I will finally have extra car money for the MZ3

Not as much progress as I had hoped for. Still trying to track down scales to get a starting weight.
