2013 SCCA PAX Breakdown


Looks like DS, HS, and STX were hit fairly hard this year with 5 points added. DSP was also hit with 4 points. STF increased only 1 point while FSP and SMF were unchanged. The big jump in DS and HS will also effect RTF as it is a PAX class. These are all the classes in which the Mazda3/Speed3 competes.

The following chart is based on a course that takes an FSP MZ3 60.000 seconds to complete. The times shown for other classes are the raw times needed to match the FSP MZ3's PAX time.

Class......2012 PAX; 2013 PAX
RTF HS...(.779) = 64.544; (.784) = 64.133
STF........(.794) = 63.325; (.795) = 63.245
HS.........(.799) = 62.930; (.804) = 62.537
RTF DS...(.800) = 62.850; (.805) = 62.460
DS.........(.821) = 61.242; (.826) = 60.872
STX........(.822) = 61.168; (.827) = 60.798
FSP........(.838) = 60.000; (.838) = 60.000
DSP.......(.851) = 59.083; (.855) = 58.807
SMF.......(.852) = 59.014; (.852) = 59.014

As you can see RTF, HS, DS, STX, and DSP will have to run 2-4 tenths faster in 2013 to out-PAX an FSP car. Interesting thing to notice is that DSP now has a higher/tougher PAX factor than SMF, so those of you running MS3s in DSP last year may want to consider running in SMF for the softer PAX in 2013 (especially at Pro Solos and Match Tours).

And here I thought I'd be wanting to run HS in the local tire index this year... now I'm back to indecisiveness which is tempting because being able to run (cheaper) 16" wheels and tires would be nice. Not looking to be nationally competitive, just have some fun but not feel like the car is keeping me from top 20(out of 100-120 usually) entrants.

Back to my indecision.
