What classes do the MS3 fall in for autocross?

Just curious where the Mazdaspeed falls in autocross with certain mods.

I know it starts out in DS, but where would I go with;

Intake, rear mount, and cobb accessport? Dsp?

Matt

I tried Autocross once, and won....I think i'm gonna like this.

A Cobb accessport alters boost levels yes? If so then yeah DSP.

Re: What classes do the MS3 fall in for autocross?

None of your mods are DS legal. They are all STX legal, with the condition that boost can not be altered.

From the local *MS3 guys running here (1 STX, 2 DSP) using Cobb APs, it can do both add boost and not. Apparently, there is a tune that will give you gains using traditional parameters not including increasing boost. Obviously there will be minimal gains, but it isn't completely useless and doesn't automatically kick you out of STX for using it.

DSP is the next step, then there's also SMF (a good bit more allowed). The 2012 SMF pax (0.852) is basically identical to DSP (0.851) meaning they run the same times. If you build to DSP rules, you can choose to run either depending on your local competition without suffering in overall pax.

Yup, Clem's right. Makes you wonder how many folks with boosted cars in classes like STX and STU are not playing by the rules and increasing boost anyways. Seems like it would be too tempting for some to just plug in the tuner and select the option that increases boost with a push of a button especially since it's very hard to detect and protest.

So I can Use the intake and rear mount and be in Stx?

Cobb would be questionable...Soundsblike I'll hold off on the ap for now.

@Adam I hear what you're saying. What makes APs even harder to detect is that there is no hardware. Plug it in at home, within minutes you have reflashed to +50hp. Then, unplug it and leave it at home. I don't know much about the APs, but how would a protester/inspector know if/what tune was flashed when the AP sitting at home? It's going to be tough competing with the turbo cars for that reason, even STF has the TDI Golf in it now.

Motor mounts

Are there any limitations to motor mount upgrades in STX? Are tmic upgrades legal in STX?

STX Motor Mounts

From the SCCA Rule Book (searchable PDF):

J. Engine mounts may be replaced, but must attach in the factory
location(s) without additional modification or changes. Engine position
may not be changed. The volume of metal in a replacement
mount may not be increased relative to the volume of metal found
in a stock mount for the particular application. Solid metal mounts
are specifically prohibited. Any non-metallic inserts may be used.
All components between the engine and the mounting structure are
considered to be part of the motor mount assembly and therefore
comprise the motor mount.
