Corded 2 of my new Hoosiers

Like the title says, the 2 fronts are corded on the outside, and sort of a scalloping after 4 events and about 30-35 runs. What could have caused it, not enough pressure, I started at 38 cold? Not enough negative camber?

Re: Corded 2 of my new Hoosiers

Pictures would help, but my guess would be over-driving the tires. By this I mean you might be throwing the car into a corner and using the tires as brakes instead of braking to the right speed and carrying that speed through the corners.

There was a MS3 driver in my region that tended to do this and got the same sort of cording.

I haven't corded a Hoosier on the shoulder yet.

You should have flipped them after 20 runs or so. You won't get much life out of the Hoosiers.

Are you running HS? If you are, not much you can do there.

Re: Corded 2 of my new Hoosiers

I corded a pair after 14 runs (13 runs at nationals in Lincoln), then one run on an especially bad surface. Then I bought an STS car...

I usually got 40-50 runs on the front depending on surface. That was flipping around 20 runs.

Re: Corded 2 of my new Hoosiers

Same here as Steve, 40-50 runs with flipping and rotating is pretty typical in HS with the Hoosiers. If that kind of tire life isn't acceptable, then I'd run a different tire. I'm going to try the BFG R1-S at Blytheville next weekend....I hear it's pretty good. 245/45/16

Adam -

How hard was it to get the 245 BFG's on the rims?

Glad someone else decided to try these as I didn't want to buy a pair of 245's only to find that I couldn't get them on the rims.

As to the life before cording issues - maybe it's because Devens is asphalt, but, while there is a noticeable drop off in performance after 40 runs, I have gotten over 80 runs on my 245 Hoosiers before cording and the corded in the middle not the edge.

I'll let you know next week when I get them mounted. I don't think it should be a problem. The tires are squared off in profile like the Hankooks, and the rim protector looks similar as well. They may even be easier to mount, as the sidewall feels more flexible than either the Kooks or the Hoosiers. The stats listed on Tirerack are accurate, I measured 9.5" tread width for the 245's.
