Don't know if any of the drivers are top notch. We know that HS has top level talent.

But ultimately - think about all the money you would spend to get a car ready for STF - just to go slower.

Yep, it will take far more data points than just the first event to see how the comparisons to H Stock (and therefore the Pax factor) will fall.

I see that Andy Hollis is not there, and I don't know any of the STF drivers; anyone here? Are any of the H Stock drivers National caliber?

As far as going slower, if the camber available would make the front tires wear more evenly, just that would be worth it for me. As long
as I'm competitive in class and having fun, that's enough. I'm now one of those "Locals" who is not going to Nationals (again), and enjoying
the heck out of our local street tire classing available.

The H Stock national champion is there who runs in my local club. That should give a good indication of how far off pace STF was at Dixie.

I still think STF is way underpaxed. It's easily going to be faster than H Stock.

OK, good to know. So H Stock is well represented.

Here is the H Stock winning time at Dixie:
---------------------------------------------------------
T 1 97 James Feinberg 2009 Mini Cooper Blue Hoosier
52.152 52.526 52.138 102.529
53.043(1) 50.957 50.391

Here is the field of STF cars at Dixie:

Class standings for STF [5 Cars] (3/11/2012 9:33:29 AM)

---------------------------------------------------------
T 1 91 Todd Freeman 2006 Mini Cooper White/ Hankook
59.372(2) 55.051 55.206 107.574
54.489 52.523 52.619
---------------------------------------------------------
T 2 77 Andres Rodriguez 2012 Mazda 2 Silver Toyo
55.930 55.225 55.301 108.057
52.832 53.398 54.735(1) (0.483)
---------------------------------------------------------
3 32 Ervin Carder 2012 Mazda 2 Green Toyo
64.035(4) 56.358 56.012 109.709
58.183(2) 53.697 57.844(3) (1.652)
---------------------------------------------------------
4 23 Chris Hill 2006 Mazda 3 Titanium Hankook
62.767(4) 58.107(2) 56.148 109.815
DNF 55.660 53.667 (0.106)
---------------------------------------------------------
5 15 Adam Neylans 2010 Honda Fit White Hankook
58.810 56.869 56.210 111.472
56.365(1) 61.073 55.262 (1.657)

About five seconds.

Freeman was 15th in H Stock at the Nationals, and there was about 5 full seconds behind Feinberg. So, essentially whatever
he did to his car made it no faster in comparison, on this day in this place. And it may be he entered STF just to avoid Feinberg.....
just sayin'

Looking forward to the next Tour (and Andy H running). I'm pretty sure the Pro Solos would not offer an "apples to apples" comparison
for usual autocrossing.

Thought about STF for a few seconds then I remembered I drive my car daily and average 25,000 miles a year. STF will make the car a lot less comfortable as a DD. If the Mazda was a 2nd car used primarily for racing then it would make more sense. Can't drive around with -3 degrees of camber on your daily and changing alignment and suspension settings before and after each event from your "street to race setting and vice versa" can be a PITA. Then there is the money going towards prep issue. CAI, full exhaust with headers, two lightweight race seats, ECU tune, camber plates, good coilovers, lightweight 7.5" wheels, good street rubber, ect ect. I'd have to spend nearly 7-10K to make my car as competitive in STF as it is right now in HS. And that's not a guarantee. I think I'll stick to HS, because it suits my current needs better and I'm already heavily invested, but I'll be watching STF.

For someone looking to have fun and be competitive locally on street tires, I can see attraction to STF though. Scott can run camber plates and a couple inexpensive mods like springs and take the easier pax.

Re: Dixie Tour Results (Including the New STF Class)

I would put zero stock in the STF results from Dixie. I had the car to run 2 seconds faster than Todd's Mini. Brainless mistakes on Day 1 and horribly missing the set up on Day 2 (I had 0 tnt runs due to having to fix an oil leak and I hadn't ever run on my current setup) kept me from that.

One of the Mazda2 guys took his exhaust off. The other Mazda2 and myself had K&N drop-ins, other than that we all had stock powertrains. James' car was actually less stock than our STF cars when not including wheels, tires, and suspension.

Even if I could have cleared Todd by 2 seconds, James is still 3 seconds faster. I've run several times against James and had much better results. I posted results last year where I was within a second of him on essentially the same set up. We will meet again in April, I hope to run a lot better then, so we can make this STF vs HS argument more legit.

Just a side note that everyone probably wants to know:
2006 Mazda3 - 2760 lbs, 104" wheelbase (my car w/ 4 gal. of gas)
2012 Mazda2 - 2190 lbs, 99" WB (without exhaust)
2006 Mini - "south of 2500" lbs - meaning close to 2400, "90 somthing" WB (mostly stock)
2010 Fit - ~2500 lbs, 98" WB (mostly stock, spare left in)

I'll post videos of my runs up soon...as embarrassing as they may be.

Re: Dixie Tour Results (Including the New STF Class)

Hey Chris, thanks for posting. I saw you listed there and was hoping you'd come on here and give us the report. You just confirmed what I had thought, STF still has a lot of growing up to do and things will be changing as the season progresses. Hollis isn't running it yet because he can't get the parts he needs and I'm sure he's not the only one. Looking forward to seeing some of your videos.

Re: Dixie Tour Results (Including the New STF Class)

Had/have bronchitis and a sinus infection and we didn't get the car together until early AM Friday, so it was a rough weekend with the CRX, but I watched STF pretty closely.

From my experiences messing with my car in HS trim on R1R's and watching this weekend, I feel good about the 3's chances. I almost wish I didn't have the CRX, so I could do an STF build. I'm confident that I could be faster in STF than HS and I had the HS car working pretty well towards the end.

Re: Dixie Tour Results (Including the New STF Class)

^AM Friday, my car was still on stands when they were calling for the driver's meeting Saturday morning and I was in the first run group. I hope you weren't watching me too closely, cuz my performance was an extreme disappointment.

I promised videos: check out reply #38 HERE
