Suspension for 1st gen vs 2nd gen

I noticed there are a lot more options out there listed for 1st gen cars. Would there be any reason why a set of struts and shocks for a 1st gen car wouldn't fit a 2nd gen car? Is there an actual change in design, or is it just a valving thing because 2nd gen cars are heavier?

Re: Suspension for 1st gen vs 2nd gen

I know the weight difference is a factor but I'm pretty sure the springs will swap. Not positive about shocks/struts however

Re: Suspension for 1st gen vs 2nd gen

I just installed Koni FSD shocks on my 2008 Hatchback. Bought a set used from this Forum, came from a 2008 MazdaSpeed3. The part numbers were
the same as the Mazda5, recommended by Jack Burns. They feel great.

However, in researching shocks for a 2010 on Tire Rack, they do not list any FSD's for either the 2010 3's or Speeds. I'm going to guess that might be due
to weight differences? But, I don't know for sure. It may be that for 2010+ there are some physical differences. Maybe someone else knows more.

Re: Suspension for 1st gen vs 2nd gen

Koni parts number is the same for forward shocks for both gen of Mazda. So the possible differ only in rear shocks, but it looks identical.

CorkSport SRI / Custom ShortShifter / Hankook RS3 / Work Emotion CR-CAI / Eibach Pro Kit / Corksport Exhaust / Proma Brakes 4 pistons / CorkSport Brake Hoses / Proma Brake Disks / Ferodo DS2500 pads / Kakumei Front End Strut Bars
