Re: 2012 SCCA STX Auto-x Build

Nice write up Justin, thanks for sharing. Couple questions:

What spring rates are you planning on running? Also, why a 255 when the 245 is better in every parameter (tread width, weight, sidewall height, overall diameter)? Did you not have to cut the shock towers for the KMac plates?

Re: 2012 SCCA STX Auto-x Build

No cutting strut towers in ST* or *SP classes.

255 is taller so it's slightly better for gearing and it's more grip up front. We did that set up when I was on street tires in my car.

That's why I asked. So the K-Macs fit under the center hole and give you full castor/camber range plus enough shock travel without modifying the tower? How did you accomplish that? Do you have added shock travel with the strut housings?

No added shock travel. We modified the plates to get more camber. They fit through the center hole with no problems.

Re: 2012 SCCA STX Auto-x Build

245 is wider than 255??? 255 because its taller, i don't need shorter tires with the ms3 gear ratio

Re: 2012 SCCA STX Auto-x Build

Toyo R1R 245/40/17 (9.9&quot has wider tread than the 255/40/17 (9.6&quot. According to Tirerack the 'kook RS3 245/40 is wider too. However, for the RE-11s the 245/40 (9.0&quot is narrower than the 255/40 (9.4&quot. Unfortunately, Tirerack doesn't show sizes for 'hos XS, Star Specs, Cont. DWS.

I agree with the 255 selection now as I wasn't looking at it from the Speed3 perspective. Aiding the gearing by using a taller tire I can understand...forgot that was an issue for the Speed3. Also never heard a Speed3 guy complain about not enough power so I guess the extra pound or two won't even be noticed.
