Guy at DYNO argues that air to radiator is right..not intercooler wtf....

Got my speed3 dynod at p2r. Did one 3rd gear pull and two 4th gear pulls. Had a small air blower pointed at my radiator (who knows why lol). And my intercooler was left uncooled while dynoing at 100mph+ 3 times. These guys are saying that my reading is correct even tho everyone and their mother said its incorrect because there was zero air being blown on my intercooler at 100mph plus on a dyno doing several 4th gear pulls. The radiator only got air. Their saying my car cant do anymore and thats what i got. But im trying to get them to understand that their needs to be air on the intercooler while dynoing. Especially 4th gear pulls. Having air and having no air is a big difference due to heat soak ect. At the end of the day i walked out with 244whp and 254wtq on my Mazdaspeed 3 2007 with corksport catless downpipe. Cold Air Intake and Mazdaspeed exhaust. The also dynod 2 stock ms3's 2011. And they got 209whp and 215whp. With no air on the intercooler. There saying thats right... They need to put air on the intercooler RIGHT???

Unless your driving your car with the hood up, those numbers should close.

Minus the drag of the tires and the lower than expected airflow over the car.

Putting a fan on top of the intercooler would generate false numbers, since that airflow would alter the charge temps.

Did you log anything on this run? Air temp, boost level, afr, timing, knock retard?

So you have a fast______(your cars name here)????

The ram air in the ms3 would still put air onto the intercooler. If no air is there then it would heatsoak. Their needs to be air...

As ek said, unless you drive with your hood up, OR if you have a front mount ic, the dyno guys were right.
When your hood is closed your fmic isnt getting much air flow, atleast not properly like your rad and ac do.

Usually they just use a large fan on the whole front no? I dont ever recall seeing a fan on any TMIC on dyno, even subies with hood scoops.

Mazdaspeed 3 Dyno pull 2, Cobb Stage 2

some places will put a fan on the tmic. however as others have said, this isn't conducive to accurate numbers.

MS CAI - F2 CBE - ACT Flywheel - ACT Clutch - ACT Pressure Plate - MS 6 Speed Trans - TWM Desert Eagle Shift Knob - MS Springs - MS Shocks - MS Rear Camber Links - Techna-fit SS Brake Lines - Hawk HPS Pads - Cosworth BSD - Ported TB - 2.0L Oil Filter Conversion - LED Door Sills - Sharkfin Antenna - 35% Tint

idk anything about dyno stuff but those numbers seem stupid low. i have seen other guys bone stock do 245-250whp. catless dp, intake, and exhaust is usually around 270 i think?

did you go just for numbers or were you getting a tune?

yeah and I 've seen fully bolted and upgraded tc ms3 in the sub 300's because their tune was ass, 225-235 show room stock is normal

you guys know when you increase flow in and out fuel pressure needs to be watched closely....primary upgrades should be pump internal then ve enhancement bolt ons

that makes absolutely no sense in my mind. you all are saying that a ms3 @ 100MPH will get No difference in airflow over the stock TMIC with the hood scoop then being on a Dyno? how...

I would still think driving 100MPH down the highway would yield lower IAT's then 100MPH on a dyno with air on the radiator only..
IAT affect dyno numbers completely, but to say that putting air on the TMIC makes the numbers innacurate..that is the HP/TQ you would get REAL world right? 100MPH down the highway in 4th making 260WHP with IAT's around 140F?, but on a dyno IAT's around 160-180.. that isn't real world.

I dunno, doesn't make sense in my mind. Put an ice bag on the intercooler next time lol
