Re: Autocross FAQ

I have the privilege of seeing Andy run at all the Austin/San Antonio autocrosses here since he's a local. Always blowing everyone out of the water in his Civic.

Re: Autocross FAQ

So,
am I at a disadvantage when going head to head with my friend
who drives a Mazdaspeed Miata?

I'm getting feedback that says the Miata is one of the faster cars in AutoX,
due to it's light weight, RWD and good balance.
The Mazdaspeed version of it should do really well, no?

(You would think/hope that all those ponies under our MS3 hood would give us a leg up!)

Also,
I was hoping that I could somehow sneak into a "stock" class if my car was not modified after leaving the dealership.
(Read: dealer installed MS-CAI, MS-CBE, MS-coil_over suspension, MS forged wheels)
I guess that's not the case?

It's a fool that looks for logic in the chambers of the human heart.

Re: Autocross FAQ

Correct. You won't be able to run in stock class with those mods.

Actually, in autocross, the '99 Miata Sport is the car to have. The Mazdaspeeds have more power but are heavier (and run the same size tire) Additionally, their 6 speed tranny means alot more shifting unless the course is all 50 MPH and up.

The MS3 should be close to a MS Miata, but the edge still goes to the Miata.

Re: Autocross FAQ

What are recommended tire pressures for stock (non R) tires on the MS3 for autocrossing?

I would guess in the neighborhood of 46-48 for the front and 40 in the rear, am I close?

A good place to start. Put some shoe polish or chalk along the sidewall and tread to make sure the tires are not rolling over. Make 2 PSI changes until you are happy.

BTW, use a gauge that reads up to 80 PSI as gauges are the most accurate in the middle of their range.

Do you know if adjustable end links are allowed in STS?

Are you talking about adjutstable sway bar links? If so, then yes as they are allowed in Stock as well. If not, then I do not know.
