Well, blaming the cat seemed to be a logical solution, since I've seen him chilling up on the fridge when I've been doing laundry and he has a history of chewing on wires and what not. But when I started tearing things apart to fix the leak, I noticed that the line was so brittle due to the paint it was falling apart. Plus my cat is a prick, he wouldn't have just put a pinprick of a hole in it like there was, he would have chewed the damn thing completely in half.
To top it off, the line is tapped into the cold water supply to the dryer, and there isn't a shut off valve in the basement for that particular line, just the main to the house. So I had to shut off all the water to the house, remove the fucked up line going to the ice maker in the kitchen, only to find out that there was at one point a shut off valve for that, it was just completely fucked up and wouldn't shut completely off. So instead of having a slowly dripping line that was dripping onto the electrical outlet for the dryer (fucking nice), and instead of having no running water tomorrow morning for showers. I had to find something to replace the valve.
Thank god I had done the spin on oil filter conversion to my car and have a sandwhich plate for oil temp and oil pressure gauges. Why might you ask? Because the sandwhich plate has 4 ports, only 2 of which I'm using, and it came with plugs to fill in all 4. And guess what? They are NPT, just like the valve that was for the ice maker.
I just happened to have the right thing to fix the problem until I can get to home depot to replace the valve and the line for the ice maker.
I'm just glad I went into the basement to swap over a load of laundry before I went to bed, I'm guessing it had been leaking for a few hours, as it wasn't this way earlier in the afternoon.
