Nate's 2015 base model bone stock Wilderness Green Outback

Figured it was time to get a decent family car that could handle our hill in snow, so we purchased a new Outback to replace the 3.

Today we decided to put the new OB's snow handling chops to the test and drove it up to Northern New Hampshire during a blizzard warning. Driving back down route 16 at midnight in blizzard conditions wasn't exactly fun, but getting off the highway and on to our hotel sure as hell was. This thing is a bloody snow beast, handling 1'+ of standing snow and 2'++ high berms with ease. Grins all around.

These pics are from early afternoon at Echo Lake Beach, long before the real snow started.

It's okay to be jealous--this thing is pretty fucking awesome, apart from the stereo, which makes Mazda's look "high-end" by comparison.

This? From you?

Unless the Subaru sounds like a Honda. I don't know how Civics sounded so awful up through the mid 2000s, but they sound like blown out speakers out of the factory.

I don't recall my boss' outback sounding that awful though, something must be wrong

The color on that thing is kinda cool. I don't like the new outbacks though, I like the headlights and front but the rear... it's so SUV-looking

It's less SUV-looking than the CX-9 that the wife wanted (7 passenger seating we don't need and 17mpg average we can't afford)...

Also did your boss opt for the H/K system or at least the 6-speaker stereo option? Because this has neither. I've managed to coax a little more oomph out of it, but it still pales in comparison to my last 3's system. Subaru for some reason also uses a very much outdated bluetooth audio codec instead of the aptX which was used in the most recent Mazda 3 stereos. So while bluetooth audio sounded actually pretty darn good in the 3, it sounds like dog shit in the Scooby. Wife wants nav anyway so once there's a dash kit out there for a double din unit and a workaround for the rear camera, that'll be the first thing we do.

I'm not sure, he didn't buy it new, and haven't really cared, the speakers sounded "normal" to me, nothing fancy but nothing too terrible.

Although you're comparing this to your '14 3 correct?
What about your first gen?
I guess I never saw if you remembered comparing those.

I was looking at a BOSE thread over at M3R and everyone said they loved it and how great it was.

All I remember about the BOSE system from the gen1 is everyone hated it, didn't sound all that great, was just expensive and hard to do any modifications to lol

I had bose on both my mazdas. Genpu has a sub in the boot but the sound in the gen juan was still pretty good (high volume that is)

The stereo setup in my original 3 was not as good as the Gen3, but still decent enough for a factory stereo. No bluetooth on that one, so I can't compare that (although since I don't think the aptX codec existed yet at that point it probably doesn't matter).

I also don't remember which I put in first, the head unit or the speakers in that car.
