08' enth, Z car

I used to own a mz3 2.3L 5AT, realized I was missing the 3rd pedal way too much. Ended up flipping the mazda and almost picked up another 2.3L 5speed, but fate put another vehicle that was just traded in for a gtr I had to have it.

08 enthusiast z33 fairlady, 25k miles, 6 mt.

First things first;

Changed all fluids that are changeable.
-Redline -Amsoil - Eneos

Transmission - 75w90
Differential - Redline 85W90
Engine oil - Eneos
Clutch fluid - Amsoil DOT3/4

Then came the mutch needed stereo upgrade, I am not much of an audiophile but the stock unit didn't even have an ipod or aux outlets,

So I picked up a pioneer AVHX4600BT dvd player w/ backup camera /iphone gps module

First oil change, napa had a sale on some eneos oil, never tried it before, but like Hannibal Lecter said ; "always try new things".

Nasty rear differential magnet....

porter cabled the paint, looks okay.

The infamous interior trim scratches, previous owner must have been a female with long nails? -spray painted with interior trim paint.

painted shifter trim bezel due to severe scratches, used touch up paint can I had from my honda.

stereo removal.

fire hazard? or not. - soldered - wrapped pretty good #hope car doesn't catch fire.

relay bypass so I can watch dvd's/ rear view camera wit the parking brake down.

stock removed.

casino royale with parking ebrake down

threw a code after head unit install, cleared it, seems to be okay - I think i triggered something when messing with the wiring?

battery charged up, need a new one I think.

city mpg, not too bad.

I definitely miss the mazda's mpg, I got ~31mpg city and ~38 highway in my 2.3L 5AT, if it was manual I would still have it

Driving experience;

Handling

The Z feels like a heavy pig coming out of my mazda3, while cornering speed increases I don't feel as confident doing high speed corner entry/exit. Mazda felt light on its feet. Z's rear end will start to step out and then traction control hits it like a hammer causing some fishtailing, I find it easier to drive with traction control off, maybe because the s2000 taught me how to handle a RWD car. Mazda takes the win here.
Power
Comparing a 3.5 v6 and a 2.3 i4 is pointless. Torque/powerband completely different, Z brakes traction 2nd gear corner exit.
Interior
Mazda way more room, Z has non existent trunk. Mazda takes the cake.

Single guy no family, Z wins, I will be attaching a rear hitch to the nissan when I move to Tennessee. Mazda might have fit all my stuff.

In a perfect world I'd have both.

Forced induction = problem solved.

That's the idea for my dedicated project car in a couple of years; NB, FM turbo kit, nice easy reliable 250-260 whp. Having raced a naturally aspirated Miata before, I can say they are very quick if you learn to maintain momentum. Add 100 or so whp, and they can really take it to more expensive cars.

I always wanted to have a miata project car, just never had the extra funds/time for one lol. Definitely on my bucket list though!
When I autocrossed my ap2 s2000 I would put down same times as lightly moded NA miatas (we are talking intake/exhaust/suspesion), some guy had a turbo mazdaspeed miata w/ suspension mods & dot tires, he put like 15 seconds onto my best laptip in the s2k.

I am considering just doing some mild bolt ons to the Z right now;
dual injen intakes, nismo s-tune exhaust, berks high flow cats and maybe a tune - should put me at like 300whp, ~350 crank.

But really, the stock powerband isn't too shabby in the 350, enough to put a grin on my face.

Maybe throw in rx8 final drive into the diff, go to 4.10 gears - should make it haul down-low.

I am just happy I don't have to swap struts again, huge pita.

Well I am signed with the airforce for medical school, ones I finish I will be a commissioned officer, long story short they pay tuition - I serve when I graduate. Idk where they will put me but I would love to be stationed at McDill AFB, however I don't mind wherever they put me as long as its by a large city!

ah, gotcha. Yeah, having tuition paid for is pretty awesome. After being here I really wish I had joined the military to get my pilots license/be a fighter pilot lol
