Went to Africa, found cool Mazda's, took pics

I was in South Africa the past couple of weeks to meet my fiance's parents as she is from there. While taking photos during our trip, I also grabbed some pics of some cool cars I wish we had here. Enjoy!

Mazda 2. This thing is awesome!

An Audi S3 in her corporate apartment lot. How come we don't get this?

A Honda Civic Type R. How come we don't get this?

A Honda Accord. Hmmm, looks like an Acura TSX to me.

Ok, I need to explain this one. the white VW is a Citi-Golf. They are everywhere. Cars are so expensive there, that they are allowed to continue production of older models. This is a carburated 1980's VW Golf GTi, but is still built new. The one in the photo was a 2008 model on test drive.

Some really cool Alfa Romeo's. I miss this brand, supposably they are coming back to the USA.

This Mazda outran an Audi S4 from a stop light, when we caught back up to it I spoke to the owner. Says it is a rotary with 215kv of power. I think that is somewhere around 400hp.

Her brother's car - a VW Polo. How come we don't get these?

Her car there, a Toyota Tazz. Another vehicle that looks old, but is a 2005 model. We averaged 65mpg with it while there.

This thing was awesome. It's a Nissan 350Z with a 4cyl turbo instead of the V6.

Some obligatory senic and animal shots:

It's a beautiful place, but is quickly going downhill. I had a great time, but the 37 hour flight time is a killer!

Awesome pictures, thanks for sharing! That is crazy about the older model cars still in production as brand new!

That first Alfa is gorgeous! And Mazda needs to sell those 2's over here ASAP.

The answer to all of your questions is the US sucks when it comes to importing cars. The Accord is a perfect example. The size is all that's needed here, not the bloated tank they make just for us.

I hope Mazda brings the 2 over.

Great pictures!!

But with it's high price and limited dealership network it's not attainable for many so they're stuck with the Accord.

Re: Went to Africa, found cool Mazda's, took pics

The primary reason those cars don't come here is emissions and safety. The Citi Golf and her Tazz still run on leaded fuel and are carburated, plus her tazz doesn't even have a driver side airbag.

I think that alot of the cars could come here though and may as gas prices rise. Gas was about 7.00 a gallon over there. The Mazda 2 was awesome. It came with a 1.3 or 1.6L normally, but was also available in a sport version with the 2.0 out of the 3.
