Help! Glove box light.

What is it tied to in order to get it to come on. Clearly its not the glove box door. Any help?

Im replacing it with a led, and i cant get the old one, or the new one to come on.

Might i have a burned out fuse?

Re: Help! Glove box light.

well glove compartment light wont turn on, unless your lights are on (headlights)
if you want to remove it and install new one.. follow this procedure.
remove the strip that goes over glove compartment door and radio LCD display.
you will see two screws. use a philips head screwdriver to remove those. then grab the whole compartment, and remove it.. you will feel when it comes out...
on top, you will have the bulb holder, also phillips head screw.. remove it.. put a LED bulb in, and put everything back in the same order you took it out

Yeah, ive already got it pulled out. Ill try again. Im wondering if my connectors are fucked up. Does the glovebox light stay on all the time when the headlights are on?

Yes, the glovebox light is on/off with the parking/headlights. So it is on the entire time they are.

Re: Help! Glove box light.

Okay, my original bulb was burnt out, and the pins on the led were opposite of what they should have been. It was the same either way you flipped the bulb, so i bent them how they needed to be. Thanks gentlemen.

Re: Help! Glove box light.

The fact that this light is on ALL the time is so stupid. Why they didnt put a normally closed spring activated switch in is beyond me. I have to bet that 95% of MS3's over 2 years old have the bulbs burnt out.

I replaced mine with a white LED and I can see light through the small cracks.

Re: Help! Glove box light.

Well, it's cheaper to have it on with the parking/headlights. No switch = reduction in parts/price. This is an entry level car. Many in the 3's class don't even all the lights and bells/whistles we have.

Re: Help! Glove box light.

Yeah, the 3 is one of the higher scale entry level vehicles on the market.

I also think i read somewhere that the 3 is one of the cheapest "newer" cars to own.

For the record, (because I was looking for this information myself) the glove box light is tied to Fuse 82 "Illumination".
