Dash pod Info, revised prototype and updated timeline 7/3/05

Sorry that this is dragging out so much, but again, I am not in charge of production schedules, mold making, etc.* I met with the guys at Lotek on Wednesday to take a first-hand look at the new and revised prototype.

The good:* Much lower profile, less intrusive on the dash, can be installed with double-sided tape.

The bad: For those that want a more secure installation, drilling will be best.* Lotek will provide the screws and covers for this.* The factory piece may need to be cut out to allow clearance for the gauges we use.* To maintain a low profile, there has to be a compromise somewhere.*

I realize that this may make the installation a bit more permanent than you had hoped, but at the same time, it will look more "natural" in our cars.*

I have contacted ADaughen to do an install and writeup with the prototype I have, since he donated his factory piece to the cause.* Lotek is still ironing out some trimming issues to get the lines perfect, so some trimming or shaving may be required on the piece before you install it.* Easily done with a razor or dremel.

Once I hear back from LML and get the piece to him to install and write up, the piece will be in production.* It was my understanding that they are going to move ahead with this design and send it with the installation instructions that are provided to them by me/ADaughen.

Keep in mind too, that the pics above are merely the piece sitting on my dash.* When pressed down the lines are close to the lines of the piece it sits on.

Again thanks for your patience with this.* Most of the delays this time around were revising the mold, which they outsource.* Also keep in mind that sometimes my schedule isn't the best to make a 45 minute drive one-way to evaluate the prototypes.* I understand the sense of urgency that most of you feel/have, but at the same time if someone local wasn't around the process would take much longer to complete.

Is the material going to be that shiny? It doesn't match the interior. Double sided tape wtf?

I'm back!!!! 2010 S Hatch.

This is really letting me down.

Are they even trying to get the end result to have the same quality as the MZ6 pod?

Re: Dash pod Info, revised prototype and updated timeline 7/3/05

The piece was not painted so that explains the color difference.

We will never have a piece like the M6 piece unless you want to pay $150+. The Mazda 6 piece replaces an existing one so its installation is and will be far cleaner that what we have going to a cheaper alternative.

As for mounting, double sided tape is an option that you can use to install it. Personally I would use the screws they send to mount it...

I would be more than happy to pay $150 to get the look of the mz6 version in my mz3.
