Headlight dimming / alternator?

I've noticed this on my 2012 and my fiancees 2009. When I back up at night the lights dim is this because of a small alternator or something?

Could it be a voltage regulator?

i mean its doing it on a brand new car so this is a problem across the platform. i came from owning hondas and it was never really noticable u could see it ever so slightly so when i saw it on my fiancees car i was kinda shocked at how much it acctually affected the headlights.

and ya the window regulators do it too.

My 2012 3 does it as well.

At idle, they're fine. Backing up to straighten in the parking spot, they dim noticeably. Not sure if it's just reverse, I'll check soon.

My 2010 Mazda 3 does it when I'm in park and turn the wheel. I also have 2 12" subs in my truck and when they hit the lights dim. I think it's just a normal thing.
