Halogen Tails to LED tails swap

I've seen on the 2.5 iTouring models it has an LED brake lamp assembly (on the 5-door hatches).

Is it essentially plug-and-play if I were to swap out the halogen brake lamp assembly to the LED's? I've looked page-for-page in the exterior lighting and couldn't find anything directly related to it.

It is a direct replacement. The brake lights are LED but the turn signals are still halogen, you can get LED bulbs to go in them. CorkSport sells the LED tail lights for the hatchback. You can also just put in LED brake light bulbs in the existing housings if you want to go with that look.

I quite like the look of the OEM LED tail lamp assemblies. Essentially just wanted to know wether or not if I needed anything additional for the OEM LED's. Thinking of swapping out assemblies, and like you suggested, switch out the halogen turn signal bulbs for LED's for both front and back for a constant effect.

Thanks for the reply!

Well if you change the turn signals to LED's you might experience hyper flashing. In which case you will need to get some load resistors.

I've noticed that the LED turn signal bulbs I've used in front (switchbacks) and rear (7W yellow LEDs) are just not that visible during daylight. At night they look great but I can see it being tough to see them during the day. It's odd how they seem brighter than halogen at night but dimmer in daylight, I think it has to do with the spectrum of light. You will want to use some high power LEDs if possible. The front spot does accommodate switchbacks from v-leds but those are about as big as I can fit in there as they just about touch the sidewall of the reflector they sit in, the back ones have lots of room for whatever you want.

It's pretty much impossible to get visible, bright LED's for turn signals. Especially the rear because if you're driving away from the sun the people behind you will just not see it as well. Now if you spend $70+ on Putco LED's it would be a little more visible.

Like Phoenix said, they seem a lot brighter at night. Which is true for the turn signals. LED's are amazing for the most part, but sometimes they can be a damn hassle.

Yeah I have LED turn signals in mine, and I always wonder if people behind me could even see it when the suns beaming behind me. It's funny I just saw this thread because I was just thinking the opposite, would halogen tails swap with LEDs? Would it have socket for my brake light?

Do you mean if you had LED tails stock and switched to halogen would it work?

I believe the socket would work, though I never thought of that.
