LED turn signal/hyperblink question..

Has anyone replaced the turn signals in both back AND front with LEDs WITHOUT adding resistors? I currently have the VLEDs switchbacks in front and with no resistor so naturally I get hyperblink ( which) I dont mind). I am about to change the rears to regular 7443 led but I'm wondering if the hyperblink will get faster; or what else might happen with all 4 LED and no resistor. I dont want to fry my relays; if anyone has any insight I'd love to hear it, thanks.

Re: LED turn signal/hyperblink question..

you will get the same hyper blink with any combination of LETs, front, rear, both. The lighting control unit senses the lack of current in one of both bulbs on a side and registers an open where it doesn't expect one and increases the blink rate to indicate a bulb is out. You will still need a resistor to remove hyperblink.

Re: LED turn signal/hyperblink question..

I have run front and back turn signals with LEDs in all with no resistors. You won't fry any components, and the blink doesn't get that much faster (I didn't notice any increase in blink speed) from just having my front turn signals swapped for LEDs. It got annoying for me though, so I wired resistors into the trunk, so now my turn signals are normal speed.

Re: LED turn signal/hyperblink question..

So putting resistors in just 2 of the positions will stop the hyperblink for all?

Re: LED turn signal/hyperblink question..

Yes, if you get the right resistance resistors. The left and right side turn signals are on the same circuit (meaning the drivers side front and rear turn signals are on the same circuit, and same with passenger side).

I do believe the NA version requires a 6ohm 50 watt resister per side.

I've had LEDs without resistors on my 3 for about 6 years? and same on my speed. no problems.

Wonder if it's different from year to year. Wouldn't put it past Mazda to play that game....

Hi,
Just wondering if you can help me. I don't know much about car electronics. I bought a Mazda3s 2011 - the turning lights on the back are red color but I like more the traditional amber color.
I found online a set of LED tail light assembly with amber color turning lights. My car does not have the LED original upgrade.
What do I need to know/do/adapt/modify to safely perform the replacement?

Thank you,

If you get a turn signal thats LED you'll have hyperblink (it will blink super fast, as in if a bulb is blown out). To avoid that you would have to add resistors so your LED bulb doesn't cause the hyperblink
