Painted headlight housings

Saw something like this in the 2004-2009 Lighting thread. Wondering if anyone with a 2010+ has done this yet. I've been thinking about going to black, but the headlights are so damn hard to bake because of their size. Nervous about cracking open the headlights with my heat gun, too -- don't want to melt the headlight...

So here it is! Let's see your painted headlight housings!!

Perhaps going to a shop that powdercoats will get you a big enough oven for the headlights.

Re: Painted headlight housings

I may just go to the junkyard and buy a pair of random headlights to practice on.

But seriously, no one here has good pics of painted 2010+ headlights? I'm disapointed.

Re: Painted headlight housings

I've seen a few guys with 10s do it with heat guns.

Just keep moving it around and don't hold it in once place, you won't melt it.

Famous last words.

With my luck, I'd go all A.D.D. and look at something shiny for a second and then BAM! oozy headlights.

yeah... UGH, I want to do this more than anything, just afraid of messing it up.

+1

It'd be a pretty effing costly mistake.

Re: Painted headlight housings

Costly indeeeeed. I am going to tint tails, and paint the headlights this winter... And just gather as much information as possible until then. And if all works well, most likely HID and tint the fogs black as well, like you're talking about in the other thread. I have played with film over the fogs (and it makes it much less white, and more halogen-y in color)

Re: Painted headlight housings

Yeah, I'm wondering if I should have gone with a 55w 5000K bulb for the fog, to compensate for a dark tint.

Not looking to tint the tails. Black hatches with black tails just look funky to me. Especially with the gen2's ridiculous contours in the tails. Not so bad with gen1's, because they were more flat.
