switching out stock HIDs- help needed

I want to change out the stock HIDs that come on the GT for same wattage different color temperature. Would the stock ballasts need to be replaced for going from 4300k to say 6000k in this case? Has anyone switched the stock bixenons out? Any help is appreciated.

As long as bulb is D2S, it works.
You don't need change ballasts/ignitors.

Make sure whatever bulb you get is reliable good product.

Re: switching out stock HIDs- help needed

Awesome thanks; I have just one other question. I read something about the bixenons which made me question replacing them. If I use a D2S from like DDM; will the high beams also work? Mazda doesnt seem to know and I dont want to order something and lose my high beams. anyone know?

Yes high beam still works.

Bi-xenon is the name of projector system you have that work with D2S bulb. Any bulb speced as D2S will work with your projector.

I am not sure about quality of DDM bulb though, do some research bit and then consult with your wallet to see which choice make sense most to you.

Thanks upashi. I went with DDM 6000k for both heads and fogs; hopefully theyll do the job.

You know as you increase the temp, you lose visibility right?

Re: switching out stock HIDs- help needed

yes but 6k is still within a good range. My concern now is that i ordered a 6k kit for the fogs too which may not match the 6k headlights now because of the projector. I've heard it will affect the color; and also it varies based on the housing. Anyone tried matching them yet?

I'm wondering the same question. I have a 2011 MZ3. Bought 5000K lows and fogs, and wondering if they will match perfectly or if my OCD will make me regret the change...

Re: switching out stock HIDs- help needed

O...K.. Did my DDM 6k fogs this weekend (lookin hot); and was about to change my stock HIDS to match when..... where the heck do the bulbs go? Its not too obvious even with the bumper off from all angles. Has anyone changed the bulbs out of the Bixenon setup; and if so how do you access the bulbs. I'm also a little fuzzy on how you "aim" the lights once installed. I have a document that shows you how to do it; BUT I mean if the bulb locks in by a twist like all the rest of them do then once its locked you can't move it anywhere to "aim" it. Really need some input here if anyone's gone through this.

Re: switching out stock HIDs- help needed

You don't aim by bulb, entire projector moves to do aiming.
Just changing bulb won't mess aiming normally, don't worry about re-aiming.

Behind D2S bulb, twist ON thing called ignitor/D2S socekt. twist this off and you have access to bulb.
Bulb is retained by retaining spring wire. release this wire and bulb can be removed.

Reverse order for install.
