Fog light help-HID conversion

Does anyone know what the black ring around the stock halogen fog bulbs in the sedan 3GT are? I've never seen them on bulbs before. I'm about to get an HID kit from DDM but I have been told that the housings on the GT may not be suitable due to the size/ reflector proximity; although I've seen like one or 2 switched already but no word on any negative results. I'm mainly concerned about overheating issues and cooking the housing etc. I'm looking to put in like some 35w, I think that should be enough light and not overblow the bixenons. Any input is appreciated.

HIDs don;t give off as much heat as halogens so you won;t cook the housings

Would 35 w be the max you could go with for fogs on the 3gt? I cant seem to find the amperage limitations are for the heads or fogs, or the wattage of the bixenons themselves.

I use 55 W in my fogs and they were fine other than the cold damaging them over the winter they're great! FYI -45 Celcius is bad news bears.

Re: Fog light help-HID conversion

The housing is a little bit small in the '10 Speed 3 for fogs (round fogs) so I opted to go with 35w HIDs. They look great, but I should have bumped up the temperature to 8k to match the 6k projector low beams. Keep in mind, HIDs not in a projector lose a lot of their blue.

OH F%$#.... Does that mean the DDM 6000k bulbs ( replacing stock HID) and 6000k HID kit( for sedan fogs) that i ordered wont match now? I'm getting nauseous; because that was the whole friggin point. Anyone?

Re: Fog light help-HID conversion

I ordered 6k replacements for the stocks and 6k 35w fogs, and the fogs are more white and the low beams more blue... its close, but definitely not a match. Could be because the bulbs are from different suppliers, but I lean more towards the points in my last post about the projects vs regular housing.

Hmm... I bought 5000K fogs and lows from DDM... Haven't opened them up yet. You think they'll match each other? I'm on a 2011 3S hatch.

Yes, I have the exact same setup and I purchased mine several months apart. The only difference is the fogs spread light more and you see the bulb itself rather than through the smoked projectors, so it will be slightly a different color but they still look great!
