Installed low-beam HID lights from DDMTuning last night

As previously mentioned, I recently ordered a set of low-beam HID lights and HID fog lights for my 2011 3. I installed the low-beam lights last night, which was a very painless process. Based on feedback from this forum, I purchased some industrial strength Velcro from a local crafts store, which I used to mount the ballasts to the vehicle (instead of the double-sided tape which came from DDMTuning). The Velcro was VERY solid, hard to imagine the ballasts will be going anywhere now.

Although I purchased the optional wiring harness for the lights, I did not install it (because it was 13 degrees outside, and I didn't want to spend more time than I needed to!). I plan to install the wiring harness, plus the fog light HID lights, this weekend when I can get the car into a garage.

The HID low-beams provided a dramatic difference over the stock halogens in terms of nighttime visibility. I got 5000K bulbs based on the recommendation from DDMTuning. They appear to provide a pure white light; I could not see any tinge of blue or yellow.

I still can't believe that one can upgrade to a real HID kit for only $35 - truly a fantastic deal and upgrade for our cars.

I'll be getting the 35w 5000K HID lows and fogs for my 2011 3 for Christmas.

Did you get the Slim or regular ballasts? Since you say $35, I'm guessing you got the Slims. Shucks. I think I'm getting the regular ballasts for my highs, but I'll definitely be getting the Slims for my lows. In hindsight, I should have just asked for Slims all around...

I think I'll be doing the 3M tape. I have bad luck with Velcro every time I use it, for any application. The Velcro sticks, but the glue on the back of it always manages to come un-sticky.

I got the slim ballasts.

I'll probably end up doing the high-beams, too, just for consistency. I actually use my high-beams a fair amount where I live.

As for Velcro, I bought this product (the 4"x2" strips). After seeing how well it fastens (both the tape side and the Velcro side), I'll be shocked if anything ever comes lose.

Yeah, I threw mine on yesterday. Very pleased with the improvement over halogen. The passenger low beam seems to be a bit brighter than the driver side but the bulb might be angled differently and my headlights are a bit dirty from the recent snowstorm.

i personally zip-tied the passenger side ballast to the radiator hose, and the driver's side is taped to the front of the battery box.

come on guys... there is a PERFECT location on top of the wheel wells, hidden from the elements, and out of view... when you open your hood people wont ask what those out of place black boxes that are zip tied to random locations are...

doesnt take much more than 5 minutes a side to get them in there (routing the wires is a tid tricky)
